But given that NIH returns $2.5 on every $1 investment, this would actually cost US economy a net $6 BILLION (per year!). Not to mention the human costs of wrecking education and research sectors and the communities they serve.

Please remember something: if you had said a year ago that Trump would do even a fraction of these things, you would have been mocked, belittled, accused of “Trump derangement syndrome,” and dismissed by certain people.

Identify those people and block and shun them.

On changes to #NIH indirect rates, there is a law in place that prohibits NIH from making such changes without the approval of Congress. See Division D, Title II Section 224 of The Further Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2024 (Public Law No: 118-47) grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

This is a massive public health and educational crisis, and we (scientists and journalist) need to help people make sense of it. Rapidly. Get your frames together people. Start sharing them in any way you can.

Scientists and journalists need to figure out right quick how to explain to the average person how a massive change in research indirects will impact the medical care they and their children get (eg at the local children’s hospital), the education their children will get, the price of tuition, etc.

As a director of finance and budgeting for a college of science at an R1/AAU university, this is fucking awful. Like you said, the sole purpose is to destroy scientific research in the US, and higher ed in general
