Underlying our approach to primary education is a fundamental premiss that the educative process is far-reaching in its scope, as much to do with the cultivation of personal, social and emotional relationships as it is with academic skill enhancement.

View rare archive footage of children working in two primary schools in the 1985, 40 years ago. The film records the integration of art work in the progressive primary curriculum, making books. The variety of different skills and quality of the work displayed is breath-taking.

In my last video I examined DFES’s 2025 Framework for writing. One of my observations was that the teaching of handwriting did not take into account children’s physical development at reception age. Mark-making and emergent writing was downplayed. So here is one I did earlier!

OFSTED have proposed changes, from 256 outcomes to the possibility of nearly 400,000! What could possibly go wrong? Wouldn't it be better to have a system more suited to Primary Schools? not a subject-based secondary model?

I reported last term that teachers were alarmed on how many children were 'not ready' for school. However, Wendy Scott, NAPE's Early Years consultant reminded me that 'was it not the case that schools were not ready?'
