“when you’re lost in the darkness” by failbender Summary: (The Last of Us AU) After an attack on the convoy escorting him out of Boston, Firefly Scientist Viktor has little recourse but to rely on Jayce Talis, a FEDRA soldier, to get him safely across the United States to St. Mary’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, where he has the chance to save the entire world.

“I am a scientist,” Viktor sighs, slipping the chain underneath his clothing again. He probably shouldn’t share this information, maybe shouldn’t have confirmed his association with the group at all, but a vague indication of his occupation really isn’t telling this stranger much at all. “I was being escorted somewhere when we were so rudely interrupted by tank fire.” “Escorted where?” Viktor’s retained glare is all the answer given. Jayce sighs and runs his face with a gloved hand. “Fine, it doesn’t matter.” Viktor studies him a moment. Jayce does have the look of a soldier: tall with a jawline that could probably fight for itself. Short clipped hair, careful shave, probably in the event he needs to mask up. A small scar lines his prominent cheekbone, a smaller one on his eyebrow just above it. His shoulders are broad with muscle that is plain to see. Really, he’s a head taller than Viktor and probably twice his width, easily. He may as well have come off of a FEDRA soldier factory belt. It’s the eyes that seem out of place, give Viktor some pause. He doesn’t dare stare for too long.
