I read a book long ago called Sphere by Michael Crichton. (Don't bother with the movie IMHO.) In that book, a fictional character who was a psychologist started to fall asleep during an intense stress event and he said to himself "This is a strong avoidance reaction" or similar. So I assume so yes.

I am recently learning there is a thing called "estrogen dominance" and I am beginning to suspect it might be part of why perimenopause seems to be causing all my ND issues to be so so much worse for the last 5 years. I have lived with stuff all my life, suddenly they are a lot more disabling.

Idk your situation, but I think well meaning people offer support like that expecting a neurotypical response. I suspect the NT response is to record that they said something sounding thoughtful but not take it literally? I actually ask for clarity in "safe" circles, exactly what are you offering?

My Buddhist practice, as a then undiagnosed AuDHD person who knew I was suffering with PTSD, helped me 1000 times more than CBT ever did, and both entered my life roughly the same time. Remember tho there are many different Buddhisms. I needed one that was less...quiet...than some are.
