Pulitzer and Tony nominated tweeter. Delicious writer/director/actor/muffin. Not quite known for TV's Nightcap (Hulu), Turnt, After Lately, Mash, Soap. 🌈 A lot of people are saying he’s one of the last great men of the theater. Los Angeles / NYC

That, and the fact that it is vastly more dramatically effective, emotionally effective, and more original and the original score and original book are just better than the revision.

It destroyed me the first time I heard it, when I took this (my first) Follies album out from the public library β€” and it has crushed me every time since.

But the title song got reworked a bit (for the worse) in the rewritesβ€” it would be one of mine but it can’t be anymore because most people don’t know (and can’t perform) the original version

(Also Ragtime, Cabaret, Kiss of the Spider Woman, Into the Woods, Sunday in the Park with George, Oklahoma, The Light in the Piazza, Jesus Christ Superstar, Hair, Camelot, Rags)

I would argue that Follies, Pacific Overtures, and Assassins are much more Pulitzer type shows, not to mention of course West Side Story which would have given him, Bernstein and Robbins Pulitzers (I think) for one of the most Pulitzer-tailored musicals ever made.

She’s amazing. There’s not a single other performer who sounds like her, and that’s something Broadway used to value highly. Sigh.

It really was so much better than I expected and so much better than what we saw on the Tonys performance. It deserved more.

This is my experience with every theater podcast, especially the ones hosts by gays. It’s so infuriating.

I remember vividly! I wrote on this delightful and insane show. We did 2 glorious seasons, it was an absolute blast.

This is what I thought it meant until I was probably 27. I still think it makes as much or more sense than the actual meaning. And I’m v smart. Go figure!

Yes it IS interesting! It was competing against A Chorus Line and Chicago, but it did win Best Musical from the Outer Critics Circle Award! Actually the entire original 1976 Hal Prince production was filmed for tv, it’s on YouTube. The entire show. It’s stunning. Here, I’ll show you…

Same. 10 years ago I thought I had a tenuous grasp on newer stars and singers, at least to have heard of them by the time they come into my sphere… now, it’s like 25% at best. But honestly, my actors and music stars were better anyway.

Broadway producers + marketing teams who aren’t on Hell’s Kitchen…I’m BEGGING you, buy ad space on the digital ad squares on the MTA New Haven line trains. I see nothing but Hells Kitchen ads… over&over, exclusively. No other Broadway shows. HK has cornered this market and my eyes. I’m BEGGING you.

If you think I didn’t grow up in a town with a store that sold books on crystals and witchcraft, and that my mom didn’t buy me them and that I didn’t walk around with them in middle school so people would ask me about them, you’d be wrong.
