01.03.2026 03:35 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Sup chat this is Slouching Towards Bethlehem with your boy The Rough Beast, and it looks like todayβs stream could be a big one, as some of you mightβve already seen there are rumors going around social media that the hour has come round at last, so weβre gonna get right into it
28.02.2026 23:51 β π 1605 π 457 π¬ 32 π 22a few times I've watched a movie on Tubi where the first five seconds or so were of the DVD menu
01.03.2026 01:00 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0movie on Tubi opens with a "shudder exclusive" title card... unclear whether they're flexing or whether that's how a shit they don't give
01.03.2026 01:00 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I suppose I would purchase a milkshake from the grimace
01.03.2026 00:30 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Personally I would NEVER purchase a hamburger from a clown. But those Mcdonald execs were living their lives differently in the 1950s
01.03.2026 00:29 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I have, to be clear, no love for the Iranian government. But the USβs allies are pulling their punches, mentioning Iranβs violations by name and the USβs violations in generalities about the situation. This is not what an even application of international law looks like.
28.02.2026 22:31 β π 321 π 83 π¬ 3 π 2Tbh I am disconcerted by this meeting so far. The USβs violation of the charter is red letter, blazing, clear as day. Many of the USβs allies are mentioning it in passing. I suspect they wont like what follows from signaling they are less committed to the UN charter than they are to countering Iran
28.02.2026 22:13 β π 252 π 81 π¬ 3 π 6Antonio Guterres has been pushing a pencil into his cheek for the last 45 minutes. Heβs going to leave a mark

The point here is that US actions are wrong in both cases. But European states often don't want to treat it that way because they frankly don't believe that these things are equally wrong.
And that's a (huge) problem for any hope of a Europe-led response to preserving the international legal order
US threats against Greenland are seen (in this frame) as a problem because where they occur. The US is supposed to threaten violence out FROM the liberal international order, not WITHIN it. The betrayal is the target, not the act.
28.02.2026 22:03 β π 59 π 7 π¬ 2 π 2
The difference between how European states respond to these attacks (and Venezuela) compared to Greenland are telling about the hypocrisy involved.
A willingness to tolerate - or enable - illegal war when it happens "out there."
Russiaβs first to bring up the invasion of Iraq today. Itβs to the USβs great shame that thereβs ever space for Russia to try and claim the moral high ground in this chamber while itβs enabled mass Syrian death and continued its assault on Ukraine

28.02.2026 21:34 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I understand why, of all those early Frankfurt School guys, people gravitate toward A + H: they're the famous ones; their work is undeniable very useful, and interesting. But Neumann deserves his due. Pulling my copy of BEHEMOTH off the shelf has felt like holding a crystal ball this whole past year
28.02.2026 21:29 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0the reasonable person does not demand a return to the war of each against all, but fights for an honest system. Likewise, when we have shown that international law has been misused for imperialistic aims, our task has begun, not ended. We must fight against imperialism."
28.02.2026 21:24 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0To abandon universalism because of its failures is like rejecting civil rights because they help legitimize and veil class exploitation, or democracy because it conceals boss control. Faced with a corrupt administration of justice,

returning now, as I often to, to Franz Neumann, BEHEMOTH:
"Every generation has seen it break down as an instrument for organizing peace, and a theory that disposes of its universalist claims has the obvious advantage of appearing to be realistic. The fallacy should be equally obvious, however.

28.02.2026 06:16 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0it's fucked up that the pokemon "pidgey" is not a pigeon, but rather a tern or wren! especially as there is not a pigeon pokemon !
28.02.2026 06:14 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0so "mickey" is diminutive for "michael"? "Michael Mouse"?
28.02.2026 05:19 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Actually I also really liked that SMILE 2 is a quasi-musical. More American movies need a few song and dance numbers.
28.02.2026 03:43 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The sequence in SMILE 2: REVENGE OF SMILE where Jack Nicholson's boy is driving recklessly as he and Naomi Scott argue in the car and the camera drifts back and forth between them in a way that denies the viewer any ability to see the road--so so good. Scary as hell even w/o the supernatural element
28.02.2026 03:32 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0the SMILE movies are pretty dumb but they're also really scary. So it's impossible to say whether they're good or not
