Just found out "berserk" is a gradual development from "bare-sark", sark meaning shirt. The Norse guys who turn red, rip their shirts off and start fighting topless. We've still got them in the UK

It's almost your time, houses that never took their Christmas decorations down and you wonder if it's because they died and nobody's found them yet

Laurence Fox wrote a song about Charlie Kirk, and this is the only comment on it.

Long shot but if anyone would be keen on last minute tickets to see METAL GEAR SOLID played by an orchestra tonight at the Royal Albert Hall at 7pm, let me know?

Partner can’t use his ticket tonight and if we can pass it to someone who can and can recover even some costs we’d like to

9 panel comic

P1: two crudely drawn characters stand on the left and right of the panel; a little girl to the left, and a man on the right. Both have big smiles on their faces

The former asks the other "Daddy? I have a question..." to which the father answers with a perfunctory "proceed..."

P2: The girl, arms spread wide, asks: "is this a relatable comic?"

P3: The panel borders are removed to represent a brief beat, as the father --in silence-- brings his right index finger to his chin in thought.

P3: The father now points over the girl with his right hand at something to the left and outside of the panel, the girl looks toward whatever it is.

The former says "to answer your question, I must first ask: look. Observe, my kin..."

P4: A wide shot of the two characters from the rear, standing on a long and narrow outcrop of rock. Below them and stretching far out to the horizon is a vast tempest of clouds, violently rotating and swirling about a single figure within the eye at the centre.

It is a vast triangular entity, its face covered in four eyes. It floats within a column of light which stretches into the sky.

P5: A low front shot of the daughter and father, standing near the edge of the outcrop.

The father proclaims "we stand 'pon the precipice at the end of all things." The daughter interjects with a cheeky "haha press a piss" before the father continues: "...not a soul beyond ours light this bleak world"

P6: A distant rear shot of the two --in silhouette-- as they are dwarfed by the Entity. It begins to rise into the sky, lit dramatically from above by the column of light. Huge chunks of stone and earth are ripped out from below and travel upward with it.

P7: Back to the POV from the first four panels, as the girl and her dad --still smiling-- look up in silence, washed out by the light show off-panel.

P8: The girl turns back to her dad and says "so, yes." He immediately talks over her saying "yeah yep." She answers with a "cool" and he goes "okay."

a knitted doll, impaled by many, many knitting needles

A friend told me he had been clearing out his gran’s house. The most amazing thing he found there was this knitted effigy of the man who had run off and abandoned my friend’s pregnant aunt. Into the effigy had been stuck twenty knitting needles: one for every year since the man had vanished.

I don't subscribe to the usual "start with Equal Rites" recommendation re Discworld. You CAN start there, but you'll be missing out on a lot of wonderful stuff in the first two books (which, contrary to weird Internet opinions, are excellent and full of essential world/vibe building)

Mind where you get it, they put out a Blu-ray with a revolting brown filter over all the Fantasia scenes, for some godawful reason. You don't want to be stuck with that. (I bought the Dutch Blu-ray when they did that which seems to be fine, hopefully whatever current version is around is a good one)
