Been saying this repeatedly - it's not a 'bit', I genuinely don't understand why we waste our time teaching students about research ethics if we're encouraging them to use tools that ignore every single one of those requirements. If we support skipping ethics why just for genAI? sheer hypocrisy.

The similarities to the promise of GenAI are stark. No matter what promise GenAI is said to have, it is being used in nefarious ways and has extremely detrimental impacts. Like aviation, it holds promise to improve our lives. But those in power use it for ill and it has unintended consequences. [3]

Existing scholarship on U.S. aviation (rightly) linked the technology to the nation's imperial endeavours, and I sought to demonstrate that at the outset, many Americans had different hopes. Unfortunately, these Pan-American aviation inactivates were short lived and fizzled out by the 1920s. [2]

The link might be tenuous, but I believe my position on the dangers of GenAI is partly influenced by my own historical research. Back in 2020 I published an article that explored the ways in which the development of early aviation in the U.S. was partly guided by Pan-Americanism. [1]
