I’m really only just getting into it but I genuinely love birding as a hobby. The entire goal is to look at the bird. Is there a bird? There is a bird! Look at the bird! These lil muskrats at the lake bring me so much joy. I mistook them for otters until I saw one on the shore with a big rat tail and frantically looked it up. I had never seen one before we started taking evening walks by the lake.

Thanks to climate change, I’m no longer sure what my area’s last frost date is. I do know it’s alarmingly early. I’m starting my tomatoes two weeks earlier this year and hoping for the best.

I also started lettuce and spinach seeds in reused to-go containers from restaurants. I put those in actual potting soil because I intend to harvest them instead of transplanting outside. I’m trying something new!

Two 50-plug seed starting trays sit on a kitchen table. A six year old child is filling them with seed starting soil mix. Seed packets and a dirt filled bowl are also on the table. It is messy and joyful.

Annual make a big mess in the kitchen day! Starting flowers, sage, parsley, basil, cilantro. A little early for the last two, but I’m going to try growing it indoors.

I had a dream that I saw a really cool golden brown, white, and black bird and I looked it up with the Merlin Bird ID app. And all my family members were super impressed and no one rolled their eyes at me.

I have a little plea and it's this: please keep posting about things that aren't The Horrors. I am not saying to not look at or be informed about The Horrors. What I am saying—what I am genuinely kind of begging you to do—is keep posting about books and movies and sunsets and pets and joy. Please.
