...and came to a stop. The front was smoking, so I got out (it was still pouring rain.)

I had a few scratches on my legs from broken glass.

And that was the extent of my injuries.

A car with a higher center of gravity could have gone over the side into the lake. Betty was totaled, the impact...

...and she hit the guardrail. I hadn't been driving very fast, but the impact tipped Betty Blue onto the passenger side and I will never forget looking *down* at the side mirror smashing the window. I thought I was going to die.

Betty skidded several yards on her side, then somehow fell upright...

...I would find out later that they closed the bridge due to high winds shortly *after* I got on. There's a metal grid part, which makes any car hard to handle, and when I drove over the grid a gust of wind hit Betty Blue. And she skidded. And I overcorrected. And overcorrected again. And again...

...she saved my life and is one of the reasons I *only* drive Toyotas.
One morning, I was driving home from a fwb's house, and it was raining pretty hard. I had to take the Causeway home over Lake Pontchartrain, aka the longest bridge over water *on the planet*.

It was windy, but I was young....
