i just think a movie that wants to talk about what AI is doing to society couldve done it in a much less clumsy and more meaningful way

and im sorry but the entire story hinging on the actual, literal, textual idea that someone is "allergic to technology" is just... unfathomably... a Choice.

some things make more sense in hindsight; i think the idea with all the young people being completely plastic is tied to a plot point about cloning. but even so, it... doesn't send a great message. it comes across as clumsy

one thing i expect we'll see a lot in movies is the human imitation of "AI art style", which this film does in a sometimes interesting way. but it doesn't seem to know what it's really Doing with that imagery. it's just kind of there to be unsettling

it makes some clever and salient points about the military industrial complex involvement in AI, and also has a sad narrative about what some people have started calling AI psychosis. but it is so bogged down in winking at its older audience about how right they are that it loses some bite

this may sound reductive; the film is just as much so. it wants to talk about the frightening implications of AI as a shaping force in society, but it has a MASSIVE blind spot in its refusal to humanize a single teenager/person under 30. it's so glaring it really took me out of the rest

just saw good luck, have fun, don't die... and while i really liked the score and some of the really neat visuals, holy shit this movie almost entirely unironically did "it's because you're on that damn phone" and also "the 5G microchips in the radio towers are poisoning us"

Not to sound like a kindergartener or something but it's just not right that in industries like film and games where incredible amounts of money get made and thrown around at the drop of a hat that the average worker cannot get sustainable wages or healthcare. It's just not! :(

As someone who works in both industries (and tabletop, too)…you’re 100% right. The discrepancy in pay and benefits is immense. The workload, creativity, and quality of stories is nearly identical.

I may delete this because it’s a bit spicy but it shouldn’t be lost on us that games being turned into TV is essentially harvesting the stories written by those who don’t have union representation or healthcare with WGA by those that do. Our stories are good enough for TV but the writers aren’t?
