I just... I don't even. I still have no idea what to do with that.

And I have no idea how to get the cogs that need to move to actually do so but, dammit, this is me getting off the internet and beginning to try.

The most disheartening experience I've had thus far was when a gynecologist agreed with a plan of inducing medical menopause based on my symptoms...

...only to have to follow that with the fact that current legislation would not allow her to sign off on it.

Why, then, are the interventions that are available so stymied. Why are we consistently told how little is known and offered treatments that must come out of our pockets for treatments that our medical professionals cannot say with any certainty will offer relief? Why is medical menopause, of the various types thereof currently available, not to mention the procedure that would remove parts of our internal system that have ceased to work, held back from us at every turn?

The reasons I personally have been given against either a medical or chemically induced menopause, or any surgical intervention, is that the decrease of estrogen in the body would put it at risk of both cardio and osteo decline.

Needless to mention again: I am going through perimenopause, a condition defined in large part by its significant fluctuations and dropping of estrogen on a monthly fucking basis.

I will mention that the rise of concerns were never noted as my husband navigated his journey towards gender transition. None of my transgender male friends have been blocked from transition on the same basis that I and others like me are denied autonomy over no longer experiencing such high and ongoing levels of untreated distress (although, of course, there are other significant barriers faced by the trans community as a whole).

Testosterone in women as a treatment is overlooked as part of the options for Hormone Replacement Therapy. However, it is reduced testosterone in women through the menopausal transition is responsible for some of the most distressing symptoms suffered, inclusive of:

β€’	dysphoric mood
β€’	unexplained fatigue
β€’	change in sexual function
β€’	reduced libido
β€’	changes in cognition
β€’	bone loss
β€’	decreased muscle strength

The amount of testosterone required to alleviate these symptoms is insignificant, and certainly not enough to cause transition. So why isn’t it talked about? Why is it rarely something offered? Why are doctors so focused exclusively on estrogen and progestog…

I've been making posts about the intersections of autism and PMDD, and of autism and menopause, on this site for almost a year now.

My symptoms are no different now than when I began to report them at the GP level and I'm beginning to put together the following statement.

My appointments with gynecologists have seen these doctors writing out prescriptions for medications costing hundreds of $$ while, in the next breath, they disclose,

"We don't know if this will be the thing that helps you, we don't know enough."

It's 2026.

Not good enough.

Then, in July, I'll be presenting a paper about polyamory in Gothic Horror, featuring the brides of Dracula, for Romancing the Gothic that's run by @romgothsam.bsky.social!

Couldn't be more excited actually.

Of Dread, Decay, and Doom – Stars and Sabers Of Dread, Decay, and Doom: a horror-themed anthology edited by Jendia Gammon, Gareth L. Powell, and Scarlett R. Algee, featuring masters of horror fiction.

First up, we will have the release for OF DREAD, DECAY, AND DOOM coming in mid-June, which my short story from Mina's PoV set two years after Lucy's death. Here's the first line:

7 October. β€” It has been some time indeed since I last felt it necessary to return and attend to this journal.

It's that time of year again!

Looking back, I actually finished drafts of more than one piece. I have at least two story ideas I'm happy to go into the new year developing.

I didn't necessarily work on what I expected to do this year, but fun was had. At the end of the day, isn't that the point?

Victoria could become first Australian state to ban unnecessary surgery on intersex children Exclusive: Legislation would prohibit deferrable, irreversible procedures until child can give informed consent, bringing state in line with ACT

β€œVictoria will become the first Australian state to ban unnecessary surgeries on intersex children, with legislation to be introduced to parliament to ensure procedures are deferred until patients are old enough to consent to them.”
