Hi, I wanted to make clear, contrary to some press reports, not all NEC members made the permission decision yesterday re: @andyburnham.bsky.social.
It was just officers who voter (9 of ten). I would have voted for Andy Burnham to be able to stand, he's one of our best chances of beating Reform.

Absolutely agree, we have to go after the dark money that fuels the far right, polarising agenda too.

I want to thank everyone who supported my campaign to become Sussex Mayor — the members, councillors, activists, and affiliates who gave their time, encouragement and trust. Your belief in a fairer, greener Sussex has meant everything. Thank you especially to UNISON, CWU, Disability Labour, the Co-operative Party and SERA for your nominations and endorsements, and to every CLP that put their confidence in me. Together, we built something positive, values-led and people-focused. Although I wasn’t shortlisted for the final ballot, I’m proud of the campaign we built — rooted in fairness, sustainability and community. Over 15 years running my own business, and through my work as a charity CEO and district councillor, I’ve worked with senior teams in local government, the NHS and across public services. I know how to get things done — by listening, building partnerships, and turning ideas into action.

It’s disappointing that too often, politics overlooks the skills and perspectives of those who have led and delivered in their communities. Real leadership comes from experience, collaboration and a genuine connection to the people we serve. I wish the candidates on the final ballot well. Sussex deserves leadership that listens — and delivers. As for me, I’ll be taking time to reflect and to decide where my energy can make the biggest difference next. Yesterday really was a "Super Thursday"!

Thank you to every single member who turned up and nominated a candidate to be their Labour candidate for Sussex Mayor.

I'm truly honoured to have received a nomination from all six CLPs who chose to nominate yesterday.

But I know they're also home to many inequalities, where many services have been slowly disappearing over the years.

With a Labour Mayor, we'll have a chance to change that.

As Mayor, I'll make sure we're building the infrastructure first, not as an afterthought.

Like Michelle, I want to see Sussex building new, high-quality social homes as a priority.

But building those homes can't sit in a vacuum. New homes must be backed by reliable transport, schools and health services.
