I went on a rainy canvass for @patrickbweiler.bsky.social and the @liberal.ca.web.brid.gy today. This riding is always fun to explore. Our walk had us on beaches, up forest cliff trails, and we even canvassed a brave ocean swimmer!
Thanks for the support John! Glad we could help fix your wetsuit :)

This is a silly way of putting it.
If it was a country, California would have the 5th largest GDP globally. The US is the richest country in the world because it was at the head of global affairs and called the shots with its allies.
The US can't afford to ignore all but 4 countries.
Mark Carney: "In America, healthcare is big business. In Canada, it is a right."
In America, healthcare is big business.
In Canada, it is a right.
So, if you want good governance and a focus on the kids instead of on culture wars whether in today's by-election or any other School Board election, it's important to prioritize candidates who aren't proposing sweeping bans on things and also prioritizing candidates who have relevant experience.

#bced #sogi #education is a tiny fraction of what #teachers do. Small things can be important, especially for LGBTQ+ kids who face huge headwinds.
The #bcpoli Conservative idea of a fair & balanced solution to some parents not wanting us to mention #LGBTQ+ identities in #schools is a total ban. 5/n
SOGI education, at least in my experience, is a really small amount of total classroom time. Maybe 0.1%? Mostly #bced spends its time teaching kids to be literate and numerate thinkers.

The other supports the party leading that war (one of his campaign events was held jointly with BC Conservative event).
It's okay to discuss and tune what we do in schools regarding #SOGI and #bced
But these folks don't want want a discussion, they want a ban.

Sheelah Donahue is the third candidate and is a previous school trustee.
I'm hoping she will be elected. Among other things, one of the other two appears to be on board with fighting a culture war centred around a ban on sexual orientation and gender identity. 2/n
Today is a #bced Trustee by-election in West Vancouver.
There are 2 candidates with limited experience I schools who have links to the BC Conservative party and a third candidate with no party affiliation who has experience on multiple community boards, many of which are about kids and schools. 1/2

The key unanswerable in the hypothetical is how π¨π¦ voters would have reacted to Trump's tariffs and how Poilievre would have pivoted with more time to tune his position via a vis the US.
Poilievre was shockingly popular until he suddenly wasn't.

It's hard to say.
We were clearly heading towards a change election. If the Federal Liberal caucus had not staged their revolt, we would be living a very different story right now. The election would still be a few months away, but Verb the Noun might still be working.

It's rational, though. As one adds things like computers and identifying disinformation to the school day, it crowds other things out.
Additionally, our brains only keep the skills we use regularly. If we don't have to use cursive reading/writing in our daily life, the learning falls away.

If walking costs you $1, we all pay $0.01. If biking costs you $1, we all pay $0.08. If bussing costs you $1, we all pay $1.50. If driving costs you $1, we all pay $9.20. Via study that still underestimates climate cost.
This isnβt about choice. Itβs about who pays for your choice.

Merry Christmas!
But the real question: Is it up to passive lebkuchenhaus standards?
They should use the Westminster term 'PM-designate', yes, because that is the established term.
President-elect only came into US constitutional usage after 150 years of it being an unofficial term (20th amendment, 1933).
But there is no common term for an interim PM as the situation is so rare.
I think it's a false equivalence to say all PMs are interim in that case. A PM/interim leader limited to ~3mos in office during a leadership race will act differently than a PM chosen to lead a party indefinitely.
So a shorthand media linguistic distinction like 'interim PM' isn't a big deal, imo.
IDK about this one.
Obviously you're correct from a constitutional perspective.
But from a functional perspective, if a party has an interim leader who is explicitly not running in the leadership race, they are a de facto interim PM as well. I guess I'd draw the line at capitalizing interim π

The devastation on its way is unimaginable - like nothing humanity has ever witnessed before - and everyone will wish they had been climate activists and βhystericsβ when they had the chance. We are in a moment of unprecedented stupidity

I think Cohen once and Jeff Buckley (or KD Lang) once, just so you understand what it can be in the hands of a poet and then a musician reinterpreting it.
Then forget about it for 20 years.
If you are ever tempted to hear it again, reach for Michael Bolton's cover as an antidote.
100% agree it captures a melancholic and problematized Christmas, much like the Pogues' Fairy Tale of NY.
To add to your point, it's also decidedly Christmas themed in its lyrics and in its composition. The arrangement clearly quotes jingle bells.
North Van songwriter, composer, and musician Corlynn Hanney wrote some great carols. Christmas Angel is a frequent selection, so Carol of the Stable Dog by Vancouver's Phoenix Chamber Choir is the one I'd go with:

Don't be duped by politicians promising to axe the tax. There are much better ways to make life affordable, but there's no better planet to protect for our kids. Stand up for pollution pricing!
