I am horrified to learn of the attack on the Peacehaven Mosque last night. My full solidarity and thoughts are with Muslim communities in Peacehaven and across the country. The suspected arson attack comes just days after two people were killed in an appalling attack on a synagogue in Manchester as they attended Yom Kippur services. It also follows a spate of attacks on mosques across the country. It is no coincidence that this uptick in violence has increased as politicians of many stripes, including Prime Minister Keir Starmer, have dialled up divisive rhetoric, weaponising tragedy and pain for political gain. The abhorrent hatred and spreading of fear cannot stand. I echo the sentiments of my colleague Zack Polanski last week that we must unite against hate and bring communities together. We will continue to work with colleagues in Hackney, across London and across the country to find ways to build bridges and ensure every part of our community feels safe.
