As the price of oil & gas explodes, I recently read about how the price impact is almost entirely speculative, as the *supply* of oil and gas hardly budges, particularly in places like Canada. It's all just straight up profits for the gas companies. Remember that as you fill up the tank this week.

Globe editorial: Albertaβs oil inheritance is being pilfered (by Albertans)
The province continues to spend its resources revenue, rather than saving that wealth for future generations
You can have 1 marshmallow now or 2 if you wait. Norway chose to wait & now sits on a ~$3 trillion sovereign wealth fund, a half $million for every Norwegian. Short-sighted Alberta ALWAYS wolfs down the marshmallow. They pissed away their future. No sympathy.

Oil and gas leap and stocks slump as war in Iran intensifies
Tanker traffic in the Strait of Hormuz came to a virtual standstill, sending crude prices high but not to crisis levels
Energy independence means independence from what happens in the Straits of Hormuz or Venezuela or any other petrostate. Energy independence is wind, solar, geothermal and storage. Cheap, clean and nobody starts wars over it. #EnergyTransition #EndFossilFuels

China solar boom helps energy emissions fall slightly in 2025
Official statistics show 0.3% decline even as total power demand rises
Chinaβs energy emissions fell 0.3% in 2025, despite a 3.5% rise in energy consumption. The drop was attributed to its massive renewables buildout, driven primarily by solar power.

Trump is neither thoughtful nor introspective, so I am pretty sure he has not reflected on the logical consequences of normalizing the assassination or kidnapping of foreign leaders he doesn't like. It's summarized in an ornithological aphorism: what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Canada poised to become 'one of the largest suppliers of LNG in the world': Energy minister | CBC News
Canada's energy minister says the country is poised to become one of the world's biggest suppliers of liquefied natural gas, exporting as much as 100 million tonnes per year.
As part of our nation's bold new industrial strategy, Canada is now set to announce that it will become one of the world's suppliers of VHS tapes. Huge untapped markets. Meanwhile China is eating our economic lunch by exporting #CleanTech. #SunsetIndustry #EnergyTransition

I love banana slugs. And the correct pronoun for banana slugs is they / their as they are simultaneous hermaphrodites. That makes mating especially fun but also risky. You probably don't want to know about apophallation.

I am actually concerned for the mental wellbeing of those in government if they all seriously think this is the case.
Clearly they have no one questioning them internally & they never hear "no."

China and the U.S - on a collision course in Latin America? - ABC listen
China is now the number one trading partner of South America.
How realistic are U.S. plans to dominate the Western hemisphere?
China now dominates trade with South America, not the US. They're exporting #CleanTech / EVs for the 21st century economy. So what do we do in North America? Please take our dirty fossil fuels & polluting gas cars.
China figured it out.
Why can't we?

Peter MacKinnon: University of Alberta should be applauded for resisting affirmative action
Affirmative action β by whatever name it is known β is discriminatory
Peter MacKinnon with an absolutely inane piece about EDI hiring opens by noting that 'affirmative action' is discriminatory and against section 15(1) of the Charter. He fails to note section 15(2) of the Charter, which EXPLICITLY PROTECTS AFFIRMATIVE ACTION POLICIES. nationalpost.com/opinion/pete...

Alberta forecasts $9.37-billion deficit, spending expected to hit record
Premier has blamed provinceβs financial situation on oil prices, immigration
Often, and especially when right-wing govts are in office, deficits arise because TAXES are too LOW. This deficit goes away (largely) if Alberta has a sales tax like every other province. So quit whining. #ABpoli
