Members of the Damen Courts Tenant Association recently delivered a majority petition to management to demonstrate their unity and demand safer living conditions, as well as an end to harassment and retaliation.

The Ellis Lakeview Tenant Association has been organizing since 2020 to make their building a safe and dignified place to live and there is no stopping now! We will not go back, every tenant deserves to feel safe in their home!

On 9/23/25 representatives of the tenant association showed up to HUD's inspection to tell them why security at Ellis Lakeview is so important and that residents can't afford to go back to an unsafe building where their were shootings nearly every week.

The Indian Trails Tenant Union has tried over the past 2 months to get a meeting with Alderman Beale. They have been ignored, kicked out of the office, and had phone calls screened.

Everyone deserves to have a good home. A home that is clean, safe and happy. Although it seems like a simple statement, there are many renters across the city, state and country that are fighting daily to make this a reality.

Can you believe this difference for a tenant at our North Austin building? While Mr. Dobbs fought for many updates, management removed his tub, providing no timeline for its replacement. How did this victory happen? We escalated through every means: the City, local electeds and the Courts.

Huge improvement for one of our tenants at Indian Trails Apartments!

After reporting leaks, holes and cracks in her bathroom, management began a repair that went unfinished. Using our tools of escalation this tenant, alongside our organizers, were able to get all issues resolved.

At JASC none of our tenants have been evicted after being served a notice. This is due to our whole organizing model, which includes legal representation thanks to our partners at Beyond Legal Aid. We use every tool we can to continue to fight and to win!

Lead organizer, Tammi Brown worked with key leaders at Crestwood Senior Apartments to put on an amazing end of summer social for residents to enjoy and celebrate all the hard work they have done this summer.

Keeping photo and video records of in-unit and building wide issues is essential in our path to victories. Without this documentation landlords and building management can diminish the seriousness and urgency of issues or dismiss them completely, for we have no means of holding owners accountable.

New blinds at Ellis Lakeview! This victory is a long time coming. Tenants in luxury buildings don't expect to live with broken, torn up, paper blinds for years on end. Whether it's a health or aesthetic issue, all tenants deserve dignity and to live comfortably in homes they are proud of.

On this Tenant Tuesday, we are highlighting one of our amazing members Adriana Williams! In May, at our All Member Picnic, the Lakeside Towers Tenants Association awarded Ms. Williams with the Trust Builder award.

A major victory for the Tenant Association at Ellis Lakeview: buildwide replacement of all carpets! Keep an eye out for more victories to come as the Ellis TA continues to fight for their demands.

It's time to show the owners: we won't back down!

The owner of the building also owns the LA Dodgers, whose payroll in 2024 was $549 million -- and yet, Indian Trails tenants have seen 0 significant investments in their years-long neglected building. Their building is in dire need of repairs and rehab, so where is all that Dodger money going?

Tenants at our newest building, Indian Trails, held a press conference to let their landlords know they're ready to fight for better living conditions.

Last week, Ellis Lakeview tenants told Freddie to CUT IT OUT by chopping up their illegal eviction notices. We won’t pay until we get a contract with the new building buyer! #NoContractNoSale

2 months into our #rentstrike, 15 Ellis tenants have received 30-day eviction notices from Freddie Mac or had management refuse to accept their partial rent payments. These are both illegal forms of retaliation, and our tenants and attorneys won’t let it slide.

🏠 Summary of Rights for Safer Homes Act (SB 3652)

The state Department of Human Rights will create a form for tenants who have suffered domestic or sexual violence that summarizes their rights and protections to safe housing.

💵 (cont.) If a landlord uses a third-party payment portal that charges transaction fees, then the landlord must also accept tenant payments by paper check – or at least one other means that doesn't require transaction fees.

💵 Requirement that landlords accept at least one form of rent without transaction fee (HB 4206)
Amends the Landlord and Tenant Act (765 ILCS 705). Protects tenants from paying mandatory additional fees on rent payments.
