And actually integrating Mr. Krabs into the plot was brilliant. There's a father/son triangle between him, Spongebob, and the Dutchman, and it is so fucking good. They cooked good

It addresses my issues with 2004 and gives Spongebob a character arc that handles his flaws so much better and actually requires him making hard decisions

Alos this might upset some readers... -

-Overall 2k4 is still a fine movie and Dennis brings a sense of dread we'll probably never see again in this franchise, but it ain't goated

Out Of Water is second in my mind. It falls short on pacing and its villain, but the writing, jokes, world building, and characterizations edge it over 2k4

-And that final act bro. Deus Ex Machina galore. Let's give bro random powers so we can do a music video. It didn't used to bug me but look how the PC game does it. Spongebob invents a super amp that short circuits Plankton's mind control. An actual plan that shows his resourcefulness -

He's written so WEIRD. Like it comes off as a transition from his down to earth everyman portrayal of seasons 1-3 to the airhead some episodes after would make him. Sometimes he's smart, and then other times he's a complete dunce who acts out in ways Spongebob wouldn't -

Okay I'm gonna get pitchforks for this but The Spongebob Movie is my 3rd place

Songs? Iconic. Animation? Perfect. Pacing? Spot on

This has the best structure of any SB movie

But it ditches 90% of the cast, weird tone, dialogue is flat, and stumbles on giving Spongebob a solid character arc -

There's some fine emotion, the characters are written so-so, and damn does it look sublime, but the entire bar bit was SHEEEEEEEEER filler. It also lacks scope. This movie could've been a streaming exclusive

- yet introduced two major plot holes (yes, this show HAD hard continuity, get tf over it) before said prequel fucking began, then you had the whole "creator wasn't in favor of spin offs" controversy, we were put off

Third from last, Sponge On The Run

This is a REALLY weird case of it was worse when it came out then grew tolerable over time

Because it was BAD. So much uncertainty around its production gave it a bad taste. It's a tribute to the creator and a sneak promo for the spin-off prequels -

- Jokes aren't funny, but slightly less unfunny than the Sandy Movie's

It looks cheap, but slightly less cheap

Worse version of Out Of Water's SB/Plankton team up

Really just a slightly better film. The most I can give it is Plankton and Karen's relationship elevates it from trash to acceptable

My next entry is the Plankton Movie. Yeah sorry did not feel it. I know everyone was glazing it on release, meanwhile I see a slightly more put together product than the Sandy movie

Writers once again proving they can't write a sidekick Spongebob without dumbing him down, just slightly less so. -

To absolutely no one's shock the Sandy Cheeks Movie comes dead last. Dull, atrocious villains, god awful visuals, finally getting Sandy's full origin was nice but they don't know how to write Spongebob in a sidekick roll -

Trust me, I get you, really, I do, it speaks volumes when I sign in every other month and still see this go on. At this point shit is clogging up the feed but slander justifies a direct response

There's an active decision to mass spam report them so see where that goes and take care of yourself
