And if the county council is truly interested in avoiding waste, the right decision is to approve the grants. Because anything less at this point means you have wasted hundreds of hours of your local citizens' time. 6/6

We choose to live in a county that shares our commitment to the arts.
If the county council is uncomfortable by certain programs, that should have been in the application guidelines from the outset. It is unacceptable to change the criteria this late in the grant process. 5/6
I am not directly affiliated with any of these organizations, meaning I do not hold any leadership position and did not aid with any proposals before the council. But I have collaborated with a few and my family and I participate in events programming by more. 4/6
09.10.2025 14:14 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Please take a minute to review it and appreciate the hundreds of hours these 30+ organizations spent on their proposals to get to the September council meeting. Their process started in April. They attended workshop, drafted proposals, presented documentation, and answered questions. 3/6

Locals on FB are sharing the Beacon article, which details how the council meeting transpired. I would instead like to direct attention to the county web page that details the process for awarding these grants. 2/6

For those outside of Volusia, our county council recently pulled funding for arts organizations. These were local grants made to local organizations using local tax dollars. 1/6

The anchors paused for a picture with us behind the news desk. The front of the desk has the "Good Day Orlando" logo and its surface if reflective. From left to right are anchor Stephanie Rivas, student Marvel Olson, anchor Danielle Knox, me, student Chaylee Martin, and anchor Amy Kaufeldt.
Visited our local morning TV news program to talk about Young Sound Seekers and Stetson University. Glad I was joined by Marvel and Chaylee, who shared their perspective as students working on this experiential learning project.

Looking past the clickbait headline, this is really worrisome. Starship is orders of magnitude louder than the current rockets that liftoff from KSC. #canaveral #soundscape 1/2

This tracks with my story. People outside academia are always confused why I moved from Florida to Hawaii, then back to Florida a year later. Short answer: tenure-track position near family.

Sousa decries the loss of βhuman skill, intelligence, and soulβ. He was provoked by phonographs & player pianos.
But in the end, his motivation was the same: Creative control, copyright, & getting paid. 2/2
These anti-AI tropes are far older than 1980s synths. Donβt forget this gem by Sousa in 1906 writing against βthe multiplication
of the various music-reproducing machines.β 1/2
