Poore & Nemecek data demonstrating the protein foods with the highest greenhouse gas emissions - with beef way, way at the top, followed by lamb, prawns, beef/dairy cattle, and dairy. The lowest emissions foods are plant based proteins such as beans, lentils, peas and nuts with eggs and grains in the middle.

Garbage plan from USDA rolling all bad beef policies they can into one:

— expand public lands grazing
— weaken ESA protections for wolves, coyotes, bears
— increase US beef production & demand
— push beef in Dietary Guidelines (influencing school food programs etc)

Chris Jones does the hard, wonky work analyzing what share of farmers in Iowa (probably representative of the U.S.) are making a lot of money by polluting waterways, and how the USDA obscures that info.

Here's a snapshot of what is grown on the most fertile soil in the world, what these crops are doing to our air, water, and biodiversity, and will cost citizens billions of dollars in gov't subsidies.

The most effective way to avert a climate change catastrophe: People in wealthier countries have to eat more plant-based foods and less red meat, poultry, and dairy.

Food causes 22-34% of climate change.
But it only gets 4% of the media coverage.

Why? Neglect. Misunderstanding. And a hell of a lot of greenwashing.

Removing terms like "climate change" from gov't sites won't make the problem go away. Kinda like not wanting to hear about where your meat comes from doesn't make the cruelty and environmental damage go away.

Not surprising. Without regulations on mandatory testing and reporting, farmers have every incentive to over-apply fertilizers to ensure maximum yields.

And to the largest producers of crops going to animal feed. Corn, soybeans & hay account for ~73% of all harvested crops.

What the hell is RIGHT with you? Most people don’t care about the suffering of animals - or at least not enough to change their behavior or give anything up.
