macquarie uni has an internationally renowned group of classics and acheological scholars, a group that is now being squeezed by higher admin for resources as part of cutting arts courses and presumably prioritising other areas in which the uni has less comparative advantage. great.

It should be scandalous that outstanding academics are being sacked when they are not real redundancies - that casuals will need to be hired to teach their courses. They are being targeted for personal and political reasons, not economic or pedagogical. It’s frightening.

The more that comes out about the fabricated crisis at Macquarie University, the worse it gets. Wanton destructive ideologically driven managerialism targetting scholars at the peak of their careers, robbing students of choice & expertise, destroying disciplines vital to the whole sector.

Macquarie is my alma mater & my former workplace. I loved working there with brilliant, dedicated teachers & researchers. Shows no care for the student experience either.There aren’t enough continuing staff NOW to teach the courses.

It’s appalling. It’s not my workplace any more but I have many great colleagues there. They have destroyed Sociology, a foundation program for MQ. It seems that unionists & pro-Palestine activists were targeted. No other explanation makes sense.

More on the destruction of MqUni Arts. Every PoC in Sociology has been sacked or pushed into teaching only. Only 1 woman left in Politics & Intl Relations, & 1 in Sociology. At least 3/9 sacked academics are neurodiverse. Several successful researchers have been sacked or made teaching only. 2/2
