Badenoch: Curb students taking 'rip-off' degrees such as English The performing arts, sociology and anthropology are among the subjects the Conservatives would like to cut

So, the plan is to cut English, the arts, and sociology - the degrees that actually study culture - while on another part of your platform claiming to β€œdefend” British culture.

It’s performance nationalism with a reading age of seven.

What Saudi Arabia’s role in the Electronic Arts buyout tells us about image, power and β€˜game-washing’ The video game company is being acquired for a record-breaking US$55 billion. Despite being named β€˜The Worst Company in America’, why is it so in-demand?

I see two big differences between this and sportswashing:

1. We *love* and also root for sports teams, tournaments have a historical mythos about them. I don't think that quite translates.

2. Video games are way more interactive.

Interested to hear more.

Jake Wojtowicz, Fans, Identity, and Punishment - PhilArchive I argue that sports clubs should be punished for bad behaviour by their fans in a way that affects the club’s sporting success: for example, we are justified in imposing points ...

I argue this is because fandom affects our identities - and what it means to be a fan of a particular team has depth to it. So bad behaviour can alter what it means to be a fan, and can shift the identities even of the good fans. We need to think in terms of shame, not guilt.

24.09.2025 17:29 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I suggest that some people might not be fans, some fan behaviour might not reflect on the community, and some groups of partisan fans can distance themselves from fans of the same team. But ultimately, they are still fans of the same team and the bad behaviour reflects back even on the well-behaved.
