05.08.2025 16:27 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Got promoted in my adjunct role (not a big deal, but $100 more per credit hour...) and found out about it because a friend reads the daily emails that I studiously ignore.

04.08.2025 20:34 โ ๐ 6 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The people praising this probably thought "It's so wholesome that he beat cancer and then won seven Tours de France! A miracle!". All forms of cheating debase the sports we love.

A huge privilege last night to listen to great modern author Philip Pullman talk about & read excerpts from His Dark Materials, in particular Northern Lights to mark 30 years since its publication. It wasn't long after it first came out that I picked it up & first fell in love with Lyra's world.

29.07.2025 16:39 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Some of us are secretly farting in Q&A. You know who you are. Some of you make a sport out of it. Some of you bring beans to conferences. Some of you read an impeccable paper and cannot help but check what the author smells like, because they might be gassy. Since flatulence is a part of your life, it is part of how you network within your discipline. You are what I will call *a tooter*.
Relatable stuff in the latest Daily Nous post!
