The Botley Road bridge replacement – in one minute! Network Rail has published a timelapse video recapping the bridge works earlier this month, when the railway line was closed for a full week. The bridge is due to open to vehicle traffic this summer. www.networkrail.co.uk/our-work/our...

Super set by the mighty @nightingalesuk.bsky.social at London’s Moth Club tonight. 80 minutes of non-stop uncompromising glorious music. The world’s a better place for just knowing they are in it.

While the protest was underway, Thames Valley Police issued several tickets to offenders – including one motorist who, when seeing the children wave their signs at him while he was parking on double yellows, mounted the pavement and drove towards them.

β€œYou know it’s wrong so please move along!” Children and parents at Windmill Primary School and Headington Nursery School staged a protest this morning against inconsiderate and dangerous driving outside school. They cite the volume of cars coming off the ring road and cutting through these streets.

There is a General Meeting of the Friends of Old Headington on Weds 11 February at 8pm in the Old Headington Village Hall, Dunstan Road.

We are discussing the proposed allocation of part of the Conservation Area, Ruskin Field, for development in the Oxford Local Plan to 2045.

All are welcome.

In she goes… the 48-wheeler Self Propelled Modular Transporter lines up the new concrete box that will form the walkway and bridge abutment at Botley Road. The jacks in the foreground will lift the box into position, enabling the SPMT to be driven out again.

Very sad. Last night they announced it as Eliza Carthy and special guests, which was a step back from the earlier announcement. Thanks for the news.

Prayer for Uninteresting Times
Β
Send me a slow news day,
a quiet, subdued day,
in which nothing much happens of note,
save for the passing of time,
the consumption of wine,
and a re-run of Murder, She Wrote.

Grant me a no news day,
a spare-me-your-views day,
in which nothing much happens at all,
except a few hours together
some regional weather,
a day we can barely recall.

Brian Bilston
