Today started out with two Internet outages, which is always frustrating, but I did manage to stream Subnautica for a few hours in the evening. I'm liking the game, and starting to get into it even when I get distracted and run out of air.

Raided into tabbybat.bsky.social and wrapped up the night.

Earl versions of Fallout used the GURPS system, but after some discussions with Steve Jackson Games the game moved to the SPECIAL system. I have heard the story that SJG didn't want GURPS to be associated with a violent video game, but the real reasons may have been more complex.

I prefer B, but keep the option of A open. When I'm streaming a retro game, it usually has a 4:3 aspect ratio so I can show it full screen but still have a big space open at the side. It's the best of both worlds.

I'd go for this. I'd even go for this as a mod of a Total War game or something similar. There was a short-lived "Aragon Online", which tried to remake this as an online multiplayer wargame, but that's really not the same.

So, that's it. I'm calling it a day on Star Trek: 25th Anniversary. It's a fun game when it works, but a little quirky and not great on balance. I'm now activating "Homer Difficulty Mode" and saying "Can't Someone Else Do It?" (5/?)

The first time I hit that I just bounced right off. It was late, I was tired, and I had wanted to wrap up the game an hour earlier, so I just ended it there, hoping to finish it later on.

I can't do it. I have tried multiple times, I have consulted guides, offered sacrifices, and nothing. (4/?)

At the very end the game switches from being a casual point-and-click adventure to being a twitchy space combat simulator. It's not the first time, as there has been some space combat in earlier episodes, but the difficulty goes way up here just to keep the game... um... "interesting". (3/?)

I had been saving in multiple slots to try to avoid this problem but since this is a 1990s game it has a fixed number of save slots and I ran out, so I found myself overwriting the last save. Oops.
