It doesn't matter what people want from their government, all that matters is what the ruling class wants from the people.

Elections do not equal democracy. Elections have to be fair.

Most modern authoritarian regimes have elections, they're just not fair elections. Sometimes they imprison opposition, they make voting more difficult, or they rig the maps in their favor.

Demanding mid-decade redistricting is, simply put, the Trump Administration's plan to rig all future elections. Full stop.

Gerrymandering is just rigging by a different name. The plan is to make it harder and harder for you to hold your political leaders accountable. That's the end of democracy.

“There’s been a lot of rhetoric about working for the people and populism, and a lot of action in the other direction,” Slaughter said. She believes that the firing of her and fellow Democratic commissioner Alvaro Bedoya (who has since resigned) represented a tipping point for the agency. Before that, the FTC maintained former chair Lina Khan’s merger guidelines and challenged mergers. Since then, it has fallen along pro-monopoly lines. “I don’t think our firing is a small part of that,” Slaughter said. “It was saying to [Republican FTC commissioners] Andrew [Ferguson] and Melissa [Holyoak] and Mark [Meador], ‘Do everything I say for my corporate overlords or you get fired.’ It can’t be divorced from that tableau with the tech oligarchs at the inauguration.”

Trump is also trying to implement the state moratorium on AI regulations (which failed in the Senate 99-1) through executive action.
