Trump deserves no credit for this ceasefire - even in a backhanded way. He could have stopped the war this entire past year. If you have to thank someone - and there is little to be thankful for given the ruins of Gaza - please thank the global protest movement.

Activist Carrie Shelver has joined South Africans Nkosi Zwelivelile Mandela, Zukiswa Wanner, Reaaz Moolla, Zaheera Soomar and Dr Fatima Hendricks under Israeli detention.

"End the killing! End the pain! Free Mandela once again!"

This is the chant that echoed across Cape Town on Thursday morning as protesters demanded the release of several South African activists, including Nkosi Zwelivelile "Mandla" Mandela, the grandson of Nelson Mandela..."

I have to admit: That the noble Italian people would be on the frontlines of preventing Israel's genocide in Gaza - putting much of Northern Europe to shame - was not on my bingo card.

Rome is rising once more, but now as a moral superpower.
