Even with all the great deals this season, it’s essential to focus on investing in resources that actually drive progress.

* How does this play to my strengths as a UX professional?
* Will I really complete it? Especially in the case of books and courses.
* Can I put what I learned into action? Pure theory may not be sufficient for proper growth.
* Will buying this deal have an impact on achieving my career goal?

Should I take that course or buy this template? What about the newest book? Overwhelming, wasn’t it?

But before you spend your money jumping on what seems to be a great deal, pause and reflect on what you really need to make progress.

Companies want designers who understand how user needs and business objectives connect. Designers who include results in their case studies understand that user-centered solutions aren’t just built for the user but also need to follow a business goal.

And while it may not be as easily measured as a conversion rate, we all recognize that we'd rather engage with something beautiful than something "just" functional.

So why not switch the tone to recognize beauty as a part of the value designers provide again.

First of all, it is harmful and mean to those of us who simply enjoy crafting beautiful stuff, and secondly, it discounts the inherent value of beauty in design.

Yes, design is more than how it looks. Design means providing solutions to challenging problems. However, I continue to see UX designers scrutinize themselves and others for "just" delivering interfaces and products, and I believe there is something deeply wrong with that.
