I was thinking of the values we try to instil in our tamariki at kura- participation, respect, integrity, determination & empathy. I could say that he shows great determination, but not the rest. Participation maybe? He does participate in parliament but wants to change the rules to suit himself.

Did you hear the incredulous laughter when he said that though? My guess is that like when they said that teachers earned over $140k and nurses averaged $125k, that figure is completely wrong.

It's the next logical step from making student allowances dependent on parental income, which is also ridiculous. This might be a tolerable policy if there were plenty of jobs and young people were just choosing not to work, but when there aren't the jobs, it is kicking people when they're down.

The one before that was 3 days & so far this one has been 3 days. Which makes him the president with the most shutdown days in history-the best at grinding the government to a halt! As he said, he's the best at everything and as far as government shutdowns go, I'd have to agree

As Mr Trump told the United Nations recently, he's never wrong. Since 1980 the US government has shut down for a total of 89 days (in Reagan's time 2 shutdowns were just for a few hours). .Last shutdown under Mr Trump's watch was 35 days. Last shutdown under Mr Trump's watch was 35 days.

Oh, and illness etc is justified absence, but that doesn't change that we're aiming for 90%. So when we've had an outbreak of strep throat, Covid and flu, we're still somehow supposed to get 90% of children attending 90% of the time with no provision for leaving off justified absences.

Our attendance average each day for the whole year is 89% which you would think was pretty good. But they're only interested in the number of children whose attendance is over 90%. We have 54% in that category which is considered bad-we're supposed to be aiming for 90% of children at 90% attendance.

As someone with responsibility for attendance at my kura, I'm with you. We have medically fragile children whose attendance is below 50% and others who have equally good reasons for absence. We also have a lot of children from overseas who need to go back to visit whΔnau at times.

I feel for Charlie Kirk's family and friends and no one should be murdered. I also have some concerns about the way that his death has been reported. He is being lauded as a clever debater and as a Christian. He certainly said he was a Christian. However the Bible says "by their fruit you will know them" and that fruit is the fruit of the Spirit - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. We can be sad for the people who loved him and angry that he was murdered, but we must not act as though the things he stood for were either reasonable or Christian. He is not a Christian martyr. There is a difference between Christian Nationalism and Christianity and the gap between the two seems to be growing. These are some of the problematic things he said:
I've had at least 4 on my FB feed so far. I put up the image with a whole heap of the awful things he said, and added

Our government invited the US to set up an FBI base here. The US attack on a civillian Venezuelan ship is a war crime. Russia and Israel are also committing war crimes. Trump is warmongering. The scary part for me isn't the likelihood of a world war. It's not knowing which side we'll be on. #NZPol

We are really spoilt in Papaioea because we have a choice between Tangi Utikere, who is great, and Teanau Tuiono who is also awesome. Labour tends to keep the electorate seat and they're both on their respective lists. I've voted Teanau recently but have split my vote in the past.

The system of 2-3 yearly contract negotiations for public servants does not work. The government, whatever their stripes, comes out wanting to keep costs as low as possible. Paying less than inflation is seen as good governance. We could save lots of angst if wages were matched to inflation. #NZPol

The two possibilities are that it came from ACT (who had been stirring up anti-council sentiment that was consolidated around a particular road) or from Christian circles - maybe Christian radio? I'm not sure where but this person is far more angry in their retirement than they were previously.
