No bank balance can filter the air you breathe. No luxury purchase can cool a burning planet. The climate crisis is teaching us a hard lesson: without a healthy Earth, currency is just paper. True wealth is a stable climate, clean water, and thriving ecosystems.

This is a really well written article on stupefying decision to go to war with Iran. My sense of foreboding has never decreased since Covid as it exposed our underlying vulnerabilities. The article uses that event frame to explain where we are now. We are also in the era of mad king demagogery.

Iran's government is more hardline, its people are poorer and more isolated, the region's on fire, and the global economy feels like its about to go into shock

If you want to know why people wanted to avoid war with Iran for so long, you're finding out in real time

Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus) at a site in Co. Limerick. This species is listed on Annex I of the EU Birds Directive. Once driven close to extinction across much of Europe, Peregrine Falcons have made an extraordinary recovery.

Sadly, seems a defining pillar in our Climate Action Plan for transport. TBF, its easier to implement demand side incentives yet it entrenches our car dependent culture with multiple associate ills irrespective of achieved emmission reductions. Also no where near enough. Great thread explaining why

Today parents in Iran buried 165 children killed in the attack on a girls’ primary school by the United States and Israel.

From Gaza to Iran, this is what β€œliberation” by the West looks like.

Excellent interview with Spanish Culture Minister at 14:33 minutes on Youtube clip (if you want to avoid ads opt in). Clear, definite & strong advocacy for importance of international law. There are geopolitical realities yet they are informed by prevailing narratives. Advance the moral case!

Really thoughtful article on an important distinction. Conspiracy theories have reach & currency in our terminally online society....that can descend in a slippery slope of legitimizing more egregious forms of prejudice such anti semitism.

the brilliance of the UN Charter's ban on and conditions for use of force -- legitimate individual or collective self-defense, or Security Council authorization -- is that it challenges governments to justify what is the most devastating use of state power. it's also intuitive.

While not the headline subject, I love how Pamela renounced the laboursome rituals of being a women because one day she decided she'd prefer to walk around Paris then get her make up done for fashion show! How wonderfully liberating & life affirming. Clearly also the better option in that instance!

Thank you for tv rec. Susan 😊 Isn't such a lovely thoughtful speech! Really genuine & not in anyway affected. So grateful for his career & those who helped him along the way. I also think he could be the finest male specimen to ever grace the screen. Just loved him in Indiana Jones & Blade Runner.

This is a gorgeous speech from Harrison Ford. A man who always appeared uncomfortable with trappings of fame reflecting on a successful lifetime acting career with gratitude & humility. Really inspiring & thoughtful speech. I've also crushed on this guy for possibly all of my own lifetime. #Indyfan

Thank you for sharing Dan! It's a lovely speech. Genuine, thoughtful & humble reflection of the expanse of a lifetime & success of his career. He always came across as someone removed from fame of it all.

The US killing one and hundred fifty school children in a single attack on Iran has apparently been universally decided to be a non story by the Western press. Not front page news, not in the highlights, instantly memory holed. Profession and institutions worse than worthless.

I think sometimes family owned shops may not open weekends etc. Fry's Antique store comes to mind. I'm bewildered everytime someone says there is nothing in Limerick city centre....there are some amazing independent family owned businesses around.

Ah you are right. I just felt they were very competitively priced so thought some were second hand. Anyhow we are blessed with some fine options here. Celtic bookshop was an absolute find. Bought a book on Irish wildflowers impossible to source elsewhere.

I really need to highlight two wonderful book shops in Limerick city....Celtic Bookshop opposite Hunt Museum which I only ventured to recently. Fabulous curated selection of books of Irish interest. Absolute treasure trove! Quay books as a wonderful second hand book option in Sarsfield St.

That's always a problem with any substantive consultative process. Some groups can vocalise more strongly & take hold of narrative. Do you engineer better deliberative processes or revert to paternalistic approach to development. A centralised style of govt exists here that makes it hard for former

24.02.2026 15:22 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

But has there been proper consultation? In an information vacuum, people are easily misled if such claims are spurious. I'm deeply committed to low carbon transitions but not one that sidelines communities. Our current planning system is an insult to idea of engaged & inclusive public participation

FWIW from me, as someone who’s watched almost all full Limerick Council meetings since John Moran became mayor (and a considerable number before as well), I wouldn’t describe it as β€œcredible”.

I’d describe it as β€œaccurate”.

I could take a thousand words to say that, but that’ll do.

It’s accurate.

Thanks for post Seamus. Your hilarious reporting on LCCC monthly council meetings informed my tentative statement in part. Its a really sad indictment of local politics in Ireland. Horse trading is too polite a description. Lack of real power at councillor level means this type of chicanery prevails

Prompted by image of Dublin pub in feed, I have to shout out about former Central Hotel & its Library Bar after checking it out recently. What was one a cosy charming old world sanctuary in city centre is now just horror show of slick contemporary beige. Is there any respect for old city heritage πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

This is ultimately where this will head to. We really need to reckon with this whole sale capitulation to the percieved "wonders" of tech. This is an amazing innovation but in the wrong hands....

From few Limerick posters here, this is credible. Frustrating that collaboration/collegiality/healthy debate is not a cornerstone in LImerick local politics. The faff over wording seems extreme & lack of transparency seems a key feature in LCCC public meetings with needlessly long adjournments.
