One yearns, however, for a cogent strategy to implement Draghi. At the moment, it's Trump who's making the running.

It’s not nonsense, but it doesn’t get us very far. When I was a lad, we used to call such a post a ‘holding position’.

Israelis are much mistaken to claim that British policy on Palestine is shaped by the UK's Islamist element. We object to Netanyahu & co not because we are Muslim fanatics but because we are European Liberals and Democrats.

Agree with this. Nobody was making the case for Europe in the UK, and that continues today, with notable exceptions like @mikegalsworthy.bsky.social and @andrewduffeu.bsky.social , both of whom are clear that this is where the UK belongs.

Lots of nonsense here and elsewhere about Macron’s recognition of Palestine. Even if it’s only a GESTURE, it’s a well considered GOOD GESTURE. Starmer and Merz can and should follow suit. #EUCO

If it’s Starmer’s excuse for NOT joining the European Union, it’s a big mistake. In substantive terms, it’s TOSH.

Really this is a lot of tosh - fully superseded when Britain eventually applies to join Germany in the European Union.

Macron suggests Brexit caused a rise in small boat crossings
President Macron says people supporting Brexit argued it would make controlling migration easier - but the opposite was true. "Since Brexit, there is no migration deal with the EU," he says.
