Nancy by Ernie Bushmiller.

First panel, Nancy talking to a logger sawing a tree and pointing to a carved piece of trunk.

Nancy: Can I have that piece? My boy friend carved it.
Logger: Sure.

Second panel, Nancy is watching the log burn in the fire place.
Nancy: I'm mad at him.

Every once in awhile I think about this Nancy comic and it makes me laugh every single time. Absolute perfection.

I didn’t get the hype honestly, but I saw it about 20 years ago so maybe time would change my perspective.

If you try and painstakingly explain everything that happens, audiences will be bored and miss that explanation anyway. Besides, a little illogic or plot convenience can help your character’s go on the journey you want to show.

So don’t try too hard to patch those plot holes.

Unless they’re very glaring, most people won’t notice so called plot holes until they’ve viewed or read the work a few times and start noticing the seams.

Or they weren’t engaged in the story to begin with.

In my own writing, I tried working hard to explain the logic of every character choice, all the reasons why things would move the way they move. Ultimately, the draft was a slog to read, and write for that matter.

Good writing can leave some things unexplained.

I always think about this response Alfred Hitchcock had when asked why in his movies, characters didn’t just call the police.

β€œBecause that would be boring.”

Why didn’t the eagles fly everyone into Mordor? Because that would be boring. And Sauron would see an avian army coming miles away.

I wish we could scrub the term, β€œPlot Hole,” from the vernacular.

For one, it’s misapplied to things that aren’t actually plot holes, IE events that contradict established lore or are out of character.

For another, trying to patch up these β€œholes” would work against most stories.

No, voting is not going to magically fix our problems, but it is one of the simplest things we can do to help curb the current administration.

We can rag on Newsome all we want, but in March of 2006, nobody knew who Barack Obama was.* We don’t know what the general will look like.

*Yes, I know some of you did know, it’s a figure of speech. Functionally illiterate pedants can fuck off.

Meanwhile, we have an important election coming up in November!

Many primaries are starting next month! Here’s a calendar.

Get the Democrats in power in the House and possible Senate, then we can fuss over the general. www.270towin.com/2026-state-p...

For comparison, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the best selling Switch game, at 70.59 million units. The Switch 1 has sold far sold 155.37 million units, or about 45 percent of Switch owners bought Mario Kart.

So these analysts are saying this should be the fastest bestseller of all time.

Let’s be generous and add PC gamers, which is a harder figure to look up, so let’s just say 50 percent of all console buyers today need to purchase GTA 6, the remaining numbers are PC gamers.

How many games do HALF of all console buyers own?

16.02.2026 23:00 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

For more context, the PS5 has sold about 92 million units since launch, Xbox Series X and S, 34 million. Switch 2, 18 million. I doubt this game will come out on Switch 1, though if it does, there will be compromises.

144 current Gen consoles. 66 percent need to buy GTA 6 to hit that target.

I remember that being a big deal for StarCraft back in the day - a 1998 release that was Blizzard’s third consecutive game to sell over ONE MILLION COPIES!

Today, that would be a colossal flop.

16.02.2026 21:57 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

At $80 a copy, that’s 95 million copies it needs to sell, not including marketing and distribution costs either to digital storefronts or physical sales.

I remember as a kid, publishers would be ecstatic if their game sold one million copies.

Let’s bring that β€œfuck Newsome” energy into getting everyone out to vote in these midterms like it was a general election.

A lot can happen between now and November. Let’s not take anything for granted here.

So all this talk about 2028…

Here’s the thing - we have no fucking clue who the nominees will be. In 2006, Obama wasn’t on anybody’s radar. Nobody was thinking about Biden in 2018.

However, we have a big election this November - the midterms! Many primaries are underway.

It did force me to understand the HTML code and the CSS and JS we used at the time, which made me better at it, and helped me keep the code very lightweight, important when a lot of people still used dial-up.

Notepad has always been a no-frills text editor. Literally a place you scribble notes. Basic features like fonts or formatting were an afterthought. That’s why it was so greatβ€”it did one thing and took no horsepower.

When I learned HTML in the 90s, it was considered the best webpage builder.
