Notes:

- Internship and RMO is where one would start as an IMG directly out of med school or mid-residency like me

- RMO jobs prior to becoming a Registrar have flexible options around the country and in multiple specialties or combinations of specialities to help you gain more experience

For those interested in post-graduate medical training in Australia:

- Internship (rotational in multiple specialties): 1 year
- Additional training as a Resident Medical Officer (RMO): ≥ 1 year
- Residency training equivalent (Registrar): Depends on specialty
- Fellowships optional

Since I joined the Navy via the Health Professions Scholarship Program, my work with the Navy is solely tied to my ability to complete residency here. I am not sure if things would be this smooth for someone who has a different rating/rate within the Navy.

Update on this: so far I have submitted a resignation letter to the Navy with proof of resigning from my residency program. My request was granted today and I was told official paperwork would follow.

Still being in med school could be an advantage for many jobs in Australia at least. I can make a post about how the post-graduate system seems to work there!
