Correction: the barrier of "pretending to do the work that commissioners are paying for" is almost entirely gone. I very, very rarely see artists be open about the fact they're using AI, and I'm sure many commissioners would not be happy paying their rates if they knew.

I know who you're talking about and seeing them receive work from furry brands has been disappointing. I can't imagine there's much pride in what they're doing.

Furry NSFW art is a small world and it matters a lot to be respected by your peers, form artist friendships in the space etc.
At least in my experience. Maybe they simply don't care now but I'm sure eventually they'll regret "faking it 'til they make it."

Which is what I expect too but in some cases they've been drawing for years. They're not in the portion of culture that doesn't understand nor value art practice. Even if their technological ideals align with using AI, it seems ill-informed given the broad art-consuming public's position on it.

I guess some people are just trying to get a leg up. I understand that desperation drives folks down desperate avenues, but this really isn't worth it.

Your peers know and they will judge you for it. More skilled artists know. You've removed your "seat at their table."

Seems a few upcoming NSFW artists are covertly using AI, sometimes with a history of drawing. Nothing may *look* wrong but I get the AI vibe, check their gallery and sure enough they've taken a massive skill leap in days.

Where's the shame? Surely the undeserved praise would feel dirty eventually?

It's just "one indirect longterm way." There's plenty of folks offering other direct short-term solutions and I absolutely condone that people follow up direct action. This post however is an example of indirect action and thoughts on why our work matters more broadly.

All the art you make matters. All the fellow enthusiasts you chat to, every panel that discusses kink topics, everything that builds mutual understanding and acceptance in ourselves and others.

It’s a long road, but we’ve already come so far. This is why we create, we can make the world kinder.

One indirect longterm way we fight this is by taking what’s undeservedly socially indefensible (porn) and making it defensible.
Every person who becomes comfortable with their kinks, everyone who feels safe to engage with NSFW and discuss it is another person who will speak up and defend it.
