(In a way it’s like that one Furuya book where he put the gross art on uncut pages, so to see the art you have to take a blade to the book or rip it with your hands, symbolically ‘becoming’ the assailant…)

I think a critical element is the cover art to the Hollow Press edition, with a shadow falling on the women’s utopia… the shadow is positioned to be you, the reader holding the book. The assailant is never shown, because it is you doing this. You must untie the book to read it. You are guilty.

IIRC he’s said the intent was to “illustrate my feelings as a kid,” tho that does not necessarily mean it’s strictly autobiographical… certainly informed by his life.

Hi, hello, I wrote a few words today about Silent Pictures, a pair of no-dialogue color comic albums which represent the final works of Kevin O’Neill, co-creator of Nemesis the Warlock, Marshal Law and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

I can’t comment on the accuracy from the Japanese, since my Japanese reading is very poor, and I don’t have a JP language edition anyway. It flows well in English. There is a production error on one page (205) where part of a panel gets garbled, but that may be an issue with the JP files, I dunno.

Not the same guy, he’s been dead for years. But it’s a very popular tv show now, so there’s probably a bunch of parodies…

None, thanks, tho I’d kind of be interested in knowing the title selection… there’s no way This Was Your Life isn’t also lurking around, but they did at least one really explicit Jews-need-to-convert title for U.S. dissemination years ago…

I was pleased to assist in proofreading the super-deluxe issue #2 of “dummy,” the editorial project of longtime comics-focused journalist and museum director John Kelly. It’s 92 pages dedicated to a century of artists parodying America’s best friend, Mickey Mouse. Recommended!

ATTN all shivering vampires, I wrote a little about Anthology Editions’ new, first-ever English publication of 1967’s Saga de Xam, a notable early adult-oriented French comic album from artist Nicolas Devil, working from scenarios by soon-to-be cult filmmaker Jean Rollin.

They also updated the character portraits to make them more boring.

Big news, I impulse bought the “Memoire” version of Ys Oath in Felghana on sale; same game, but as a novelty they decided to have Adol talk. This is done *without* changing the text, however, so all the parts that narrate Adol’s actions now have him sorta talking over the text narrator. Kinda funny!
