Prey depletion by a predator guild suggests spatial differences in competitive ability, but not prey partitioning, consistent with functional trade‐offs The top left image shows a gold dust day gecko (Phelsuma laticauda) perched in the vegetation (photo by Amber Wright), while the bottom left image shows a brown anole (Anolis sagrei) perched on the g...

On a more serious note, have you seen this paper by Amber Wright, Kyle Edwards & colleagues? Lizard ZNGIs!

What I think most people don't appreciate is that the 1% of top labs that do the most cutting edge research actually inextricably depend on the remaining 99% of the research community. Most PhD students who do the cutting edge research in these top labs come from undergraduate programs in the 99%.

A new preprint with Matthew Schmitt, @kiseokmicro.bsky.social and Vincenzo Vitelli makes a huge step forward in learning functional groups of components in complex biological systems. It's dimension reduction that speaks to biological function. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

How does salinity affect growth?

@fryderheim.bsky.social & I developed a model to describe this, and he's parameterised it for >100 species. We can now model how salinity changes should affect population & community dynamics!

β€œUltimately (in our view), this happens because the currency of scholarshipβ€”publicationβ€”is becoming increasingly detached from the notion that publication is meant to add to the sum of human knowledge.”

Been thinking a lot lately about the systemic consequences of publishing slop.
