The plutocrats in the MAGA coalition want this because it redistributes even more wealth upwards towards them; for the MAGA ideologues, this is about entrenching hierarchies of race, gender, and wealth in service of what they call the “natural” order.

MAGA is at war with egalitarian democracy.

What’s clear is that the GOP, AI executives, and Gulf State princes all have a common belief in AI—as a means of accumulating capital, undercutting labor, and concentrating power. And the terms of AI development and deployment are on the cusp of being set entirely by oligarchs, billionaires, and their allies in the ruling party. And those parties are intent removing any impediments—like the democratic process—from their pursuit of power and profit.

I'm not sure how you read this paragraph from @bcmerchant.bsky.social today and reach the conclusion that AI/GenAI is something you should be welcoming into your teaching and asking students to embrace as ~the future of learning~ Read the post at: www.bloodinthemachine.com/p/de-democra...

If you learn nothing else from the ongoing Grok AI "Kill the Boer" debacle, learn this: It is not a "calculator on steroids". It is an epistemic weapon designed to shape worldviews. If Gen AI is anything, it's the "culture industry on steroids".
