I don’t want to run just because I’m a deaf person. I’m running because of the skills that I have.
That being said, there has never been a person who was a culturally Deaf signing person in any legislative seat in any state or the national level.

Press release: Civil rights attorney Howard Rosenblum announces candidacy for Illinois’ Ninth District.
Skokie resident takes his legal track record defending rights to the fight against Trump’s radical agenda.
Howard Rosenblum, born and raised in Skokie and nationally recognized civil rights attorney, announced today that he is running for U.S. Representative in Illinois’ 9th Congressional District.
Rosenblum, who has spent more than three decades fighting for civil rights and disability justice, is stepping forward at a critical time for the nation. "This is a campaign to restore the foundations of our democracy,” Rosenblum said. “I know how important equality under the law and full opportunity through civil rights is. My legal experience fighting back is exactly what we need in Washington right now."
After becoming totally deaf at the age of two due to meningitis, Rosenblum’s journey defied the odds. He attended Evanston Township High School, earned a degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Arizona, and obtained his law degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law. Over the past 33 years as a legal advocate, he is one of the country’s leading voices in disability rights — litigating for 19 years in Illinois then serving for 13 years as CEO and Director of Legal Services at the National Association of the Deaf (NAD) and now advocating through his own non-profit, Deaf Equality.
Rosenblum’s legal advocacy has led to landmark victories — including successfully challenging the Trump administration in federal court to achieve accessibility within the Presidency. His work has ensured equal access across public institutions, universities, hospitals, and Fortune 500 companies.
“I’m not a politician; I hold them accountable,” Rosenblum said. “I’ve spent decades fighting in Washington and at home, fighting for the most vulnerable. Now I’m stepping up to take that fight back to Trump and the radical agenda to take away our rights.”
