I'm speaking from personal experience of never really seeing it in London to working in a Scottish school last year (and now on supply) and seeing violence against adults regularly. I've looked up the stats but more interested in what people are actually seeing. Hoping I've just been unlucky

Can any other Scottish primary teachers illuminate me on violence in their schools? I trained in England & moved back to Scotland last yr to a scl with lots of violence towards adults. Thought I was unlucky with the scl but now doing supply & seeing it again. Someone please reassure me it's unusualπŸ™

SNP told universities they could 'over-recruit' student primary teachers despite job shortages Campaigners call for postgraduate primary teacher training scheme to be β€˜halted altogether’

Why am I not surprised? πŸ₯²
They're just recruiting more people for the opportunity to be unemployed!

Great thread - I've only seen snippets of potential Ofsted changes so it was good to see more context.

Not sure I love the look of the potential report card 😬 this particular aspect doesn't seem like an improvement at all

I knew I wanted to work in education but wasn't really sure in what capacity. Teaching seemed like the obvious option in that regard so gave it a try and really liked it.

I know I previously taught in London for five years but moved back to Scotland last year for personal reasons. It has been a tricky balance between living here because it's better for my personal life but challenging for my career

I quite like Ruby's Worry. The illustrations are really nice in that the worry gets brighter and more vibrant as it grows and the background becomes black and white. Helps to show the kids how we can become overfixated on our worries in quite a simple, child friendly way

Thank you - I appreciate that. It's tricky in Scotland because there is a shortage of teaching jobs so to stay in the career it will be a slog with many temporary, insecure contracts but today reminded me I do actually like the job. Hopefully it will be worth it 🀞

Did my first day of supply today and it was so lovely! After a year in a really tricky school, I might have given up on teaching altogether if today had been bad. It has given me hope that maybe I might have a future in teaching

First September in 6 years that I won't be going into the classroom. It feels very strange but excited to start a Masters in Education alongside some supply work around my timetable #edusky

Families may not get first choice of early years places, Labour warns Bridget Phillipson warns of impact of ongoing staffing shortages.

I refuse to read the ed sec in The Sun πŸ™„ but this piece explains what she said. There's no way primary schools can help them fulfill the 2025 offer because that's for babies of 9 months old plus. #EYFS www.eyalliance.org.uk/news/2024/08...

All of a suddenly my feed just fell apart and I wasn't interested in any of it. Couldn't see anyone I followed, was getting 4 ads in a row and the posts I was seeing were really random. Bluesky feel so much more like old Twitter πŸ™Œand I'm really enjoying it

I'm still catching up on how to use bluesky but like the idea of different feeds so I can turn off work stuff when I'm on holiday. How did you set up the journalist/news feed?

18.08.2024 23:24 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Absolutely! Got this at my own parents evenings every year and it was never said as a positive. Being 'quiet' hasn't done me any harm or prevented me from becoming a teacher/following my chosen career path. It's an unnecessary negative when there are other things to mention like you say

I’ll miss this unique stage of a social media platform’s development where we welcome new arrivals as if we’re a 9 year old child talking to another 9 year old child on their first day at school after having just moved to the area. "Now, this is where the toilet is. And that is where you do a wee."
