Didn't know it until L brought it to my attention this evening. Wouldn't like to be the person at Bauer Media making decisions at the moment.

#forgotten80s
The end is nigh
Abuse of women is disgusting and to use your position to facilitate it is abhorrent . My sympathy is extended to all affected.
Until today I wasn't aware and for this im sorry. I would have spoken much sooner.

Won't be missed.

I see the BRIT panel ignored my suggestion of a Brit School double-header medley of "Escapism" and "Holy Holy." If they'd gone through with that you'd still be talking about it today.

Didn't watch it. I saw Phantom Of The Opera in '87; that was quite sufficient.

and yes, this is about the NME rather than MM, but it's unpleasent to be reminded just what an absolute dick Richard Cook was sometimes, particularly in 1984.

Not saying "I f*cking told you so in the MM letters pages of the '90s," but, um, I did. Long but essential read, again via @davidstubbs.bsky.social over at FB:

Not listening to that again. Its presenter has been busy being a creep to a woman on Facebook.

I was wondering why it was quieter than usual last night but now I know why. I’m absolutely fucking disgusted in regards to β€œyou know who”.

My association with #Forgotten80s is definitely finished after I think around 9/10 years, can't be exact. Being more appraised of the situation I feel sick not only for those affected, but for not knowing sooner than today.

Such behaviour is NEVER acceptable, and never will be.

Right @matthewjrudd.bsky.social, I'd like any outstanding requests to be removed from future episodes. I think we both know why. #forgotten80s

I will be joining others and being boycotting #forgotten80s hope we can still remain friends. More importantly woman's safety is the main thing.

Just speed-listened to that new Mitski album. Some of it's OK but most of it's monotonously miserable middleground press-the-surround-sound-button-on-your-stereo production fodder for music critics who get paid to be miserable. Might grow on me though so 6/10.

We disembarked from the #f*rg*tt*n80s ship some time back and take no pride in seeing that we were right to do so. No excuse for that behaviour and I presume Absolute Radio/Bauer Media will act appropriately.

3 Mitski - Nothing's About to Happen to Me (10,184)

Seems like the right time to share this again. Here’s Menelik Shabazz’s short film Blood A Go Run which was filmed at the Black People’s Day Of Action in β€˜81 www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJdf...

I just saw that. In the early Melody Maker nineties I was never quite sure why Courtney Love and Everett True were so down on BC, but now it makes sense. Waiting to see how many others of his ilk grudgingly or not so grudgingly agree with him.

One to interest @scatterkeir.bsky.social, I think - this is one of the great party albums!

β€œI Would Have Thought In The Middle Of The Atlantic In The Middle Of The Night That Rockets Must Mean Trouble”: β€œI’m Not In Love” by 10cc "watching for night, with absinthe eye cocked on the lone, late, passer-by." (Sylvia Plath, "Prospect," 1956) This story begins ...

Just heard this on the radio, fittingly following "I Only Have Eyes For You" by the Flamingos, a record with which these four Mancunians would have been entirely familiar, so here's a repost of something which at the time I didn't expect to live to write:

Oh yes. I never get around to listening to that because I'm usually busy putting together the week's Young Punctum entry (or, as things stand, revising it) of a mid-Sunday and there doesn't seem to be a listen again facility. Hope it's a bit more interesting than all the boring retro chart shows.
