Well thanks Larcombe & Bierwirth. Not only do we have to stress over our kids living in a future where large chunks of land will be under water and southern England will have the climate of northern Norway due to AMOC stoppage, THE ATMOSPHERE WILL ALSO BE TOXIC.

Given the existential threat to the UK of an AMOC collapse and (sooner) the Subpolar Gyre (SPG) - a reader commented: "what is the UK Gov doing to prepare?" According to Hansard, AMOC has only ever been mentioned 3 times, in one Lords debate in 2024. And the SPG? Not once.

The expansion of knowledge has unfolded alongside the expansion of harm. The damage is neither unforeseen nor poorly understood; it is documented in real time. What impedes response is not ignorance, but the gravitational pull of convenience, entrenched power, and habitual patterns of consumption.

Great climate, security, health leadership of mayor HeiΓ°a HilmisdΓ³ttir @hilmisdottir.bsky.social and ReykjavΓk City. Constraining fossil fuel production together.
A fine step for Iceland that was already in a Nordic leadership position with its warning about the risk of AMOC collapse. So promising!
Reykjavik is once again demonstrating what it means to be a climate leader!
Iceland stands on the frontlines of the climate crisis and this endorsement sends a clear message: addressing fossil fuel production must be part of the solution.
Iceland is using geothermal energy to help farmers, above the arctic cycle, grow food all year round.
We have the solutions. Implement them. #ActOnClimate

Bursting the bubble: Europe is capable of phasing out Russian gas ahead of schedule
The EU is no longer facing an energy crisis, and Russia has overestimated its own indispensability, explains economist Vladimir Milov.
This is a good moment for Europe & UK to remember that they can stick up wind and solar, insulates houses, far quicker than they can find new gas in e.g. North Sea
If you're chasing more gas, it's now a case of which unreliable regime you prefer to depend on
