Readers in Arizona, Michigan, & Georgia!
Your senators have been getting a LOT of dedicated pressure to end the shutdown, without fixing healthcare.
If you have a minute, go ahead & give them a call!
Their job is to respond to constituents & they're mostly hearing from GOP voters rn.
Nice

HEY NYC PEOPLE here's some useful information on judicial races, and ballot initiatives from my friend @harihareswara.net. Like my blog on MSP, she offers endorsements, but pulls together info so it's useful even if you disagree with her:

In The Fall In the fall When woods are turning I feel again That fruitless yearning The burning of the leaves, The hint of winter grieves me And I'm blue In the fall The days are fleeting While toward the south Small wings are beating The killing frost Reminds me summer's lost And so are you Wistfully, I close my eyes And I remember Summertime, your lips on mine A memory in September In the Fall, the wind goes crying For all the bright things slowly dying The nights grow wild And like a little child I cry for you - Louise Jackson Doyle

19.01.2025 10:06 β π 847 π 297 π¬ 38 π 52A NYT Ethicist column letter reads: "I have a Little Free Library in my front yard. I encourage my neighbors to take books and leave books, and many do. Childrenβs books are especially popular. I ββcurateββ the library box at least weekly to be sure it is well stocked with books for various ages and interests: fiction, nonfiction, poetry, cookbooks, babies, storybooks, young adult literature, etc. If a book stays too long in the box, I rotate it out for a later time or donate it to another L.F.L. or to the public library. As a book lover, I am concerned about right-wing movements to remove books from libraries; Iβve always believed that we should have free access to ideas. But I am now facing an ethical question. Someone leaves a lot of religious books in my Little Free Library. I welcome Bible stories, prayer books and religious philosophy, but recently donated books are making the case to children against evolution. In storybook form, these books state that the earth is only a few thousand years old, and that dinosaurs and humans coexisted. These are not told as stories, but as the word of God. I realize that parents usually help children choose books from my front yard, and that I do not have an obligation to leave specific books in my L.F.L. indefinitely. Still, these anti-science books present me with an ethical dilemma: If I am opposed to schoolsβ and public librariesβ banning books like ββIn the Night Kitchen,ββ ββFun Homeββ and ββHeather Has Two Mommies,ββ must I also distribute creationist childrenβs books? β Name Withheld"
i don't know who besides this specific person needs to hear this but
