Today’s butterfly is the Comma. A recent arrival in Ireland; they started to naturally colonise in 2000 and have only been in my area for the last 5-10 years. This is the first one I ever saw, around 3 years ago in a school nature garden.

The path ends at a charming stone building with steeply pitched tiled roofs and mullioned windows. A statue stands prominently in front of the building, surrounded by yellow and pink flowers. To the left, an arched ivy-covered gateway opens to another area. Tall trees and a vibrant blue sky with dramatic white and gray clouds complete the idyllic scene.

#PalacesandGardens This is only a very small corner of the building and gardens. Anglesey Abbey, Cambridgeshire. The priory was closed in 1536 during the dissolution of the monasteries and a Jacobean-style house was built on the site of the ruins in about 1600. #photography #EastCoastKin

Taken on the lawn in front of the main entrance. The central rotunda stands proud in the centre of the façade with it's wings stretching out beyond either side of the picture. In front of the entrance a temporary art installation called 'Helios' by Luke Jerram representing the Sun hangs from a cradle (it's about 8m in diameter). In the foreground a tiny blue glass orb with the continents picked out in gold represents the distance from the Earth to the Sun. The art installation would probably look very good at twilight as it is illuminated... at the time of our visit we found it decidedly 'meh !'

Lindstedt Palace (Schloss Lindstedt) in Potsdam is a small, late-classical palace built between 1858 and 1861 as a royal residence for King Friedrich Wilhelm IV of Prussia. The palace was designed by a team of prominent architects, including Ludwig Persius, Ludwig Ferdinand Hesse, August Stüler, and Ferdinand von Arnim, who ultimately realized a design strongly influenced by Italian villas and Roman antiquity. Architecturally, the building stands out for its clear and simple lines, forming a two-story, asymmetrical structure reminiscent of a Roman villa. Notable features include a long colonnade of columns facing the garden, an elevated main staircase, and a round tower topped by a temple-like belvedere. These elements result in an eclectic, yet harmonious ensemble deeply inspired by romantic classicism and Italianate style. The palace is harmoniously integrated into its surroundings, with landscaped gardens designed by Peter Joseph Lenné that enhance the connection between the building and the parkland. Lindstedt Palace’s garden, although only partially realized according to the original plans, still contributes significantly to the site’s noble character today. Today, Lindstedt Palace is recognized as one of the architectural gems of Potsdam, protected as a historical monument and incorporated into the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Potsdam and Berlin. From 1983 to 1994, Lindstedt Palace housed the Institute of Forensic Medicine. During this period, the building was not open to the general public, as it was primarily utilized for professional and scientific work in the field of forensic studies and medical jurisprudence. After 1994, the palace became part of the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation and was used for cultural events and public functions, while only the surrounding gardens are regularly accessible to visitors today.
