It’s great to be back in New York City. I spent a good deal of my childhood and teenage years in and around NYC. I’ve been back to promote my new book, “Coming Up Short.”

I’m promising myself this is my last book tour. (Of course, I made the same promise with the last book.)

Why has the Fitbit sleep monitor suddenly got completely useless? It used to plot REM and deep sleep, and now it just has awake, restless and asleep. It now makes a staggering inaccurate guess at how much sleep you got. Have they suddenly lost access to teh IP or something?

There used to be an early (~1981) natural language processing computer program developed at MIT by Joseph Weizenbaum that could talk to you about your feelings. It was called ELIZA and ran on the Commodore 64. It was much safer than AI!!

I'm so white I asked the trolly boys if they would prefer me to put the trolly back after I had used it. They asked me to not put it back because they didn't want to loose their jobs.

Yo, people who program shit

HEAR THIS

My KEY beef with spellcheck (on every platform) is when I spell a word correctly but 'spellcheck' decides to change that correctly spelled word to a different word that's more commonly used

Fuck you, if you programmed that

Look me in the eye 🤨

FUCK YOU 🖕

It's funny to think that my preference for urban living in areas with dense, mixed-used, walkable neighborhoods, multi-family housing, small businesses, and diversity probably stems from Sesame Street. Like an early education in Jane Jacob's urbanist theories.

COVID doesn't reduce flu. Because COVID damages the immune system (it causes non-antigen specific activation of CD4 T cells causing their "exhaustion," so they fail to be able to support the generation of cytotoxic CD8 T cells) it makes severe infections (including by flu) more likely.

Parliament resumes next week. If Labor's 50 female MPs opted to sit as their own party in the House of Representatives, they'd have seven more MPs than the entirely of the 43-member Coalition opposition, of which just nine are women.
