A biotech company says it's brought back an animal that's been extinct for 10,000 years: the dire wolf. Now it's eyeing the woolly mammoth.

Not now, biotech company, we’ve already got a lot going on

The fall of Rome seems so much less exciting now that I realize everyone was kinda just working their regular jobs and paying bills and stuff the whole time

Cory Booker Just Gave The Longest Speech In The History of The US Senate Only two men have spoken on the floor of the U.S. Senate...

In his 1957 filibuster, Strom Thurmond said "Negroes ... are not so well qualified to vote as are the white people.”

A Black senator just broke the record Thurmond set with that speech.

We Are Sleepwalking Into Autocracy Senator Chris Murphy, of Connecticut, describes how free and fair elections might end in America as soon as 2026.

β€œThis is how democracy dies. Everybody just gets scared,” the Connecticut senator Chris Murphy tells David Remnick. β€œYou make a few examples, and everyone else just decides to comply.”

β€œPeople voted for Trump based on their recall of the 2017-2020 economyβ€”stimmy and superdole includedβ€”and simply did not encounter and/or believe reporting about his plans to be a dictator” fits the available facts much better than β€œa plurality of Americans voted for Trump to be a dictator.”

Democrats Tell Shitty Stories Storytelling is a vital part of being in public service; Democrats need to get good, fast.

And here we go. First piece on Substack. I will never monetize my work there, feel free to share if you think it's valuable.

This is my not-yet-cooled-to-lukewarm-but-probably-should-have-drank-it-sooner temperature take on the CR bullshit from Friday.

This breaks my heart. We fought so hard to get EPA to look at environmental justice issues in an area of Birmingham called Collegeville hit, faced, massive health challenges. I’m sure there are similar areas all across the country. archive.epa.gov/epa/north-bi...

Kidnapping an activist and jailing him in the middle of the night is a brazen act of authoritarianism.

Punishing dissent by revoking legal status is a dangerous precedent to set.

I am no longer able to donate myself (apparently I don't store enough iron to share!). But I'd be happy to share my experience of donating - where, what it's like, etc.

It's an easy way for most folks to give back and all it costs is some time and maybe a nap after.

For the record, do I think a one-day boycott is going to make much of an economic impact? No. Do I think that a sort of "Baby's First Boycott," performative though it is, might be useful to make some folks aware of the impact of their economic power, and how it might be wielded politically? Maybe.

Even though most of us will probably never lead the charge, we all have a vital role to play in this battle before us.
