#WorldSnakeDay #knowledgeispower Snakes play a vital role in maintaining ecological balance, acting as both predators and prey within food webs. They help control rodent populations, reducing disease spread and crop damage. Snake venoms are also used to develop essential medical treatments & drugs!

16.07.2025 07:48 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A side view of a heavy-bodied snake in loose coils on the ground, head facing right. The snake's ground color is a uniform light brown, with no markings, and the underside is an even lighter brown color. The scales are smooth and shiny, and the tail at far left center is just a stubby little nubbin (natural feature). The eyes are small, the iris is brown, and the pupil is small and dark.
#SnakeWeek: A Rubber Boa (Charina bottae), from Washington State. Much of the time they are underground or under cover, pursuing rodents, lizards, etc. As a predator defense, these boas tuck their head under and wave their stubby tail (far left) as a distraction. #herps #snakes #NaturePhotographyπΏ
15.07.2025 14:43 β π 205 π 41 π¬ 9 π 5Side view of a small tricolored snake stretched out in a series of loose curves, head facing right. The snake is stretched out on a flat rock surface covered with rusty orange lichen, and behind the snake is a view of some green-and-brown rocky desert scrub, with the blue Pacific Ocean visible behind, and finally on the horizon are the faint purple hills and mountains of mainland Mexico. The front half of the snake is tricolored, with alternating rings of this pattern: black-white-black-lavender-black-white-black-lavender. The lavender rings disappear about halfway down the body, leaving a simple black-white-black-white ring pattern. The head is mostly black, as are the eyes, with a white ring at the neck.
#SnakeWeek: This is Lampropeltis herrerae from Isla Santa Todos off the west coast of Baja Norte, Mexico. Essentially a Mountain Kingsnake, it was isolated from mainland populations by rising ocean levels, and now survives as a desert island kingsnake. #herps #snakes #NaturePhotography πΏ
