If you aren’t in a family of stoke victims support group, you absolutely should be. I know you’re disinclined toward group activities but you don’t just need local friends, you need local friends who really understand what you’re going through and people in those groups absolutely do.

The aftermath is often the hardest bit. During a crisis there is all the fear and fighting to keep your adrenaline up. But the calm that follows a crisis can feel flat and depressing and now you’re living with a guy who is and isn’t the guy you married. That’s hard no matter how you look at it.

I think couples counseling along with him seeing a counselor on his own is probably a good idea. The problem with self-soothing is that so often it’s counterproductive to actually feeling better long term, but the stuff that makes you actually feel better is hard to do when you’re feeling down.
