Finally saw Kurosawa’s “Ran” (1985) last night. I’ve been holding off until I could see it in the cinema, and wow, was it worth it. A grand, pessimistic, and chillingly beautiful piece of painting with light.

Returning the bike we borrowed for the #danny-boy-patches-it-up pitch to the amazing folks army Recicletta San Anton in Cuenca. They recycle bike components into whole bikes for anyone who wants one, including donating bikes to folks in refugee camps in overseas Spanish territories. 💖

Pagoda at Toshogu Shrine, Ueno Park, Tokyo. In the foreground is a row of four ishi-doro stone lanterns that lead the eye diagonally towards a four-storey pagoda.

The Asahi headquarters in Tokyo. A golden-coloured slab-sided tower about 23 storeys tall with a silvery top three floors that are supposed to resemble the head on a perfectly poured beer. To the left of the tall tower, a smaller black building has an irregularly shaped golden squiggle on top, which from this angle looks like a pear, but which from other angles looks like a sperm or a turd. It was designed by Philippe Starck. Reflected in the left side of the tower is the Tokyo Skytree, Tokyo's tallest building.

Some tall things I saw in Tokyo. Pagoda at Toshogu Shrine in Ueno Park, and the headquarters of the Asahi brewing company with the Tokyo Skytree reflected in the northern face of the tower. The golden blob on the shorter building was designed by Philippe Starck.
