Murphy: "If we continue to observe norms, if we continue to engage in business as usual, this democracy could be gone. I don't think we have a year to save American democracy. I think the way the president is acting ... puts out democracy at immediate risk."

Fascism is unsustainable. It is inherently built to fail, despite what its leaders want you to think.

The bigger question is not whether it will stand. It is: can we hurry its demise? Limit its danger to the vulnerable?

And just as important: what will we build after?

Enough with this โ€œopponents say.โ€

*proponents* say it exposes trans people to discrimination, thatโ€™s precisely why they want to do it

also, it overtly specifically and exclusively discriminates against trans people whatever anyone says; itโ€™s a discriminatory law goddamn it

Tyranny requires your fear, your silence, and your compliance.

Democracy requires your courage.

Fascinating article about the decline in civic engagement by MN CEOโ€™s. Itโ€™s another example of how incredibly fractured weโ€™ve become as a community. We need each other. We all do better when we all do better! #minnesota #minneapolis #stpaul #WWPWD

If you wanted to cut waste, fraud, and abuse, you would empower the inspectors general.

If you wanted more waste, fraud, and abuse, you would fire them.

Bookshop.org enters the e-book arena, giving indie stores a new way to compete with Amazon "Everything Amazon can do, we want to do as well or better," says CEO Andy Hunter on boosting indie sales digitally.

This is VERY good news. Love bookshop.org and all the stuff they do!

Trump is targeting antisemitism in schools. Experts fear other civil rights will be ignored The federal office that enforces civil rights at school across the nation has been ordered to prioritize complaints of antisemitism above all else as it molds to President Donald Trumpโ€™s agenda, raisi...

The best way to end antisemitism is by combating it alongside other forms of oppression โ€” NOT by elevating it above other forms of oppression, isolating Jews from other minority groups. These fascists are not trying to fight antisemitism. They are using Jews to divide & conquer.

Together, Trump and Musk are trying to rewrite the rules of the American system.
They are trying to instantiate an anti-constitutional theory of executive power that would make the president supreme over all other branches of government.
They are doing so in service of a plutocratic agenda of austerity and the upward redistribution of wealth. And the longer Congress stands by, the more this is fixed in place.

Again, if Musk had been elected to some office, this would still be one of the worst abuses of executive power in American history. No one in the executive branch has the legal authority to unilaterally cancel congressional appropriations. No one has the legal authority to turn the Treasury payments system into a means of political retribution. No one has the authority to summarily dismiss civil servants without cause. No one has the authority to take down and scrub government websites of public data, itself paid for by American taxpayers. And no private citizen has the authority to access the sensitive data of American citizens for either information gathering or their own, unknown purposes.
The thing, of course, is that Musk isn't elected. He is a private citizen. He was neither confirmed for a cabinet job nor formally appointed to a high-level position within the administration. He does not even have a presidential commission; he has been designated a "special government employee." Musk says that he is acting on the authority of the president of the United States. Elon Musk's mother moved to South Africa in the year Apartheid was created, and she and Elon left the year it ended. The last Apartheid Prime Minister, a man who refused to testify at the Truth and Reconciliation Committee, was a family friend who stayed at their home. This is not a crazy theory.
