I just wanted to make this thread because man I'm so sick of seeing this. I want artist to succeed, but it's something that you gotta do yourself and not beg people to help you just to help you. People will not be that kind to you and no one owes you anything. Owe it to yourself instead.

This is just my view as a client, and an artist. Don't be like this person, because I guarantee you, if you look at their profile, they don't really advertise themselves well. I looked myself and simply doesn't have anything related to THEIR art.

Second recommendation, go to multiple platforms and keep each up to date. If I were to see your profile on multiple platforms, I'd be tempted to look more into you.

My recommended advice here is to put your artwork on your page, make a commission chart with your rates and advertise yourself and your art. If your profile looks good to potential clients, you're already building a positive rep.

And my response is rude. However, to potential clients, this does not look good. You're basically doing cold calling and going profile to profile with people rejecting you. Why I said what I said was because if you go into those types of fields, you'll receive an hourly pay even if you're rejected.

So, I push back harder. No means no and honestly, I do not care. I know it sounds rough, but I have my own problems, why do I have to worry about yours? And they start the guilt tripping, and at this point I'm annoyed to all hell. My response is mean, I acknowledge this.

And each one starts off with a random "friendly" greetings. And I'm already aware where this is going so I let them know that I'm not interested. And automatically starts push back.

So right off the bat, I have this posted on my account for a very good reason. I've had this occur about 10-15 times now on both Twitter and BlueSky and I'm tired of it at this point. If you'd like actually talk and be friends, I'll be friendly but your struggle is NOT my responsibility.
