Thatcher wanted to raid European βbutter mountainβ
Files show PM sought to use European stockpiles to replenish UKβs emergency reserves.
While strategic food dumps had been run down under Labour Government's of the Sixties and Seventies, it was Thatcher who ordered them to be sold off (buildings and foodstuffs). Gummer was just tidying up the last vestiges in 1993-6. www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/thatche...

Roy Cohn's six rules that Donald Trump learnt:
1. Admit nothing, always claim victory.
2. Counter-attack with unimaginably greater force
3. Weaponise the legal system
4. Manipulate the media ruthlessly
5. User fear as shield & sword
6. Cultivate total Loyalty

Trump's OODA.
Observation: what was on Fox News 5 minutes ago.
Orientation: how can this event personally enrich me and how can I use it to attack my enemies
Decision: This must be done because I am always right.
Action: Pretend to take action, then reverse ferret if it looks like it's going to π©

did Trump become President in order to
1. Grossly enrich himself and his wider crime family
2. Launch a witch-hunt against his enemies, perceived or otherwise.
3. Shut down all investigations into his own relationship to Epstein.
4. Feed his planet-sized ego.
in no particular order.

Good piece about a transnational trend in reactionary politics
Following in Murdoch's footsteps, we have seen countless reactionary billionaires building media empires, almost always at a huge loss
Profit is not the point, power is and weakened democratic institutions are unable to resist

You're right. I think it's more of an instinct, a compulsion, but there must be the basic elements of a plan there. Whether they happen around Trump, or even in spite of his tantrums and sulks, is moot.

Trump loves to project power, because he is a weak person. His vanity and narcissism, which makes him incapable of considering any consequences of his actions, is magnified by his lack of intelligence (cognitive decline) and the fact he has no attention span at all.
Put simply, there is no plan.

Almost all of Israel's massive stash of weaponry comes from or is funded by the USA. Historically this has been about deterrent. Since Trump's been in power the pressure not to actually use it has gone. Despite Putin giving Iran intel to help their strikes, Trump wants to remove sanctions on Russia.

Am I alone in thinking this is really an attack by Israel against Iran? The USA joined in with Israel's war. Why? Because Trump is weak and stupid. He's caught between his two best mates Bibi, a genocidal leader; and Vlad, also a genocidal leader. He wants to please both; both are exploiting him.

Absolutely insupportable. Labour have a massive majority. Itβs a hugely popular issue. To fail to act would be a dereliction of historic proportions, and utterly inexplicable.

Stewart Lee: Theyβre saying Trump has βlit the signal fire for Armageddonβ. Still, could be worse!
If itβs true that the Iran war will mark βJesusβs return to Earthβ, as US forces have been told, at least that would suggest there was some kind of plan
It's hard to find humour in the current geopolitical sh*tstorm but I think on balance Stewart Lee wheedles some out for us in his latest for @thenerve.news www.thenerve.news/p/stewart-le... It's plausible that Lee is right to think Trump will set his eyes on Londinistan for his next regime change.

SCR-584 radar - Wikipedia
and, if you've read "Most Secret War" by RV Jones you'll know about the Tizard Committee and the UK/US joint work on radar which led to advanced US units being rushed to England after the initial V1 launches showed how useless the British radar was in tracking them. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCR-584...

Yes I was thinking that earlier. The difference being the V1's would (albeit unintentionally) cut out, signalling their rapid fall to earth. Whereas the change in pitch to a higher note signals the Shahed's acceleration towards the target. Also a massive difference in payload - 850Kg vs 18kg.

Brent Crude is up nearly 10% today, to over $93 a barrel.
It hasn't been this high since November 2022, during the continuing fallout from Putin's invasion of Ukraine.
While we can expect a big spike in inflation from the cost of Oil-related products, it should also β¬οΈ the transition to electric.

I think it's the difference between Axel Springer SE, which is now 95% owned by Friede Springer and Dopfner; and "the entire Springer company" where KKR and CCP still have investments alongside Springer's - specifically in The Stepstone Group and AVIV. Axel Springer SE is purchasing the Telegraph.
